Good but not great

Purchased this player to replaced my old S790 which was one of the best players Sony has ever made. However, this player is a step backward compared to the old S790. 1st) the player only have one HDMI output. The S790 has TWO. 2nd) It only decodes True HD and Dolby as 2 Channels. The S790 decodes up to 5.1 Channels. Picture and Sound quality is great, however, for the amount of money Sony is charging for this player, they should have at least included a second HDMI output and full 5.1 channel internal decoding for True HD and DD. The S790 has all these features and cost almost half the cost less than the S790.

Replaced my Pioneer Elite because it would not read certain discs and it took forever to load the ones it could read. This player loads a disc in about 30 seconds. I am very satisfied with the performance of this unit.

In a very crowded marketplace, it is all to easy to purchase the wrong product and be deceived by overzealous marketing hype. Sony lets their products speak for themselves. In my opinion, Sony is synonymous with quality and very good price points. The Sony BDP S7200 Blu-ray Player is a phenomenal product and has performed much better than I expected especially for such a reasonable price. If you love home theater equipment and the experience they create, the Sony BDP-S7200 Blu-ray Player is the only choice to build your own home theater on!!!

Lots of problems

We purchased a lesser quality SONY Blu ray player. It was very cheaply made and it failed. The door wouldn't open and disks were caught inside. The only way to extract the disk was a complete reboot and then it would only last for one or two times. Under warranty we decided to buy the BDPS7200. It was rated high so we asked SONY to credit us with the cost of the one that failed so that we could purchase the better model. SONY agreed. The construction of the BDPS7200 is clearly superior hence we though we made a smart purchase. However, this model requires a minimum of 2 MBPS streaming to be able to connect to the internet - hence, we could no longer access NETFLIX since our internet is only 1.5 MBPS. We looked into upgrading the internet connectivity. In the meanwhile the door on the new model locked up. Like the cheaper model it required a rebooting almost after every DVD was played. We returned the player which was still under warranty. SONY replaced the player. However, we decided we had enough of SONY Blu rays. We gave it to our grandson - an engineer - he has a 10 MBPS internet connection. We bought a different brand - which, so far appears to work as advertised including operating with our 1.5 MBPS internet connection.
