Muse is one of the few bands that, instead of straying from their unique style, adds to it with each new release. I'm not saying that Black Holes and Revelations is any better than any previous album, but it sure brings some new classics into the spotlight. And, as usual, their flair for dramatics is ever present. Oftentimes rabble-rousers, sometimes sad and broken, occasionally hopeful and even playful, the lyrics really do enhance the unrelenting talent of their instruments. I guarantee no one can sit still while listening to "Knights of Cydonia"; if you can, then please direct me to whatever it is that gets you more pumped up and ready for BATTLE! Maybe a speech by King Leonidas, but he's just a movie character (coincidentally, the song was played in a "300" DVD commercial). Muse was feeling very battle-ready on this album; going against tyranny and conformity was the dominant theme of this CD. But even though that makes it sound like the typical rock album of this decade, the volume and style used to protest against the world is spectacular. And if you're not feeling too anarchic, there's always "Supermassive Black Hole." Listen to it; the best rock-dance song ever.
What's great about it: Consistent with Muse's perfect record of flawless musical performance.
What's not so great: It's difficult (and sometimes painful) to sing along with Matthew Bellamy's piercing falsetto...

People tend to regard this album as a bit of a low point for Muse but I certainly don't agree. It's definitely different from the previous three albums, but that's not a bad thing at all. No Muse album is like another and each stands out on their own. Black Holes and Revelations stands out with a more pop sound but retains its signature originality. Matt's voice carries the album and his vocals again astound. There's not much piano in this album but you probably won't notice with everything else going on. It's a fantastic album with very upbeat songs like Starlight and Map of the Problematique and some calmer songs like Hoodoo and Soldier's Poem. But you'll definitely be singing along.
