It definitely helped to watch a video beforehand to learn the proper way to install the water filter. Saved a lot of aggravation. Would be better if the filter was less expensive but otherwise I'm very satisfied.

Defective filter

My new filter was defective. It didn't let through enough water for ice maker. Since I didn't know what caused the problem, I called repairman, who put in another filter. Then icemaker worked again.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I've had this refrigerator for quite a number of years. I've never had a problem with it. I like the ease with which I can change these water filters . and that they are a reasonable price and last a long time.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I tried an OEM filter and was not pleased with it. I purchased a GE filter and it went in smoothly. Everything works perfectly.

Replaced GE blue label GSWF with GE purple label GSWF. Purple label GSWF hole is narrower and will not allow water to flow.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Hi there, and thanks for taking the time to let us know of your experience. We regret any trouble you had with the GSWF replacement being narrower and not allowing water flow; reduced water flow is not a known issue, and certainly not what we would expect of this filter.
Have you tried removing and reinstalling the filter, to make sure everything is installed as it should be? If it might help, we have Installation Instructions for the GSWF available here: https://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-6000022-1.pdf . For water flow issues, you may also want to check to make sure there is no kink in the supply tubing or a clog in the saddle-valve.

We're sorry you've been having trouble with the flow of water from the dispenser, and we'd like to help. It sounds like your filter may be clogged. To confirm that you have a clogged water filter, remove the filter and install the bypass plug. Try using the dispenser with the bypass plug in place. If the water flow from the dispenser improves, the filter is clogged and needs to be replaced.
If you need the bypass plug and one was not supplied with the refrigerator or has been misplaced, one can be ordered at no charge by calling 1-800-GECARES. We hope this helps so you can have the quality experience you deserve. Take care. -Sylvia@GEA
