Works well for about 5 mos but after that begins to have an off taste to the ice cubes. Recommended to replace every 6 mos?

We have been using these water filters for almost two years and think they're great. Water tastes wonderful. The only problem we have with them is changing them; they are very difficult to turn to get them out. There is no problem putting them in.
