Great hood, difficult installation
on November 17, 2017

This is a great looking hood, love the slate color. Been using it for about a month and am satisfied. The installation of the hood itself was fairly easy. Installation on the chimney sections was very difficult. The screws that hold the upper chimney section in place are extremely small and impossible to line up and drive home. I ended up drilling out the wall brackets and bolting the upper chimney section in place on the brackets. The lower chimney section fits very poorly where it meets the top of the hood. There are two tiny little tabs that are supposed to hold the section in place but they are essentially useless. The fit between the bottom of the lower chimney section and the top of the hood is very poor and it's impossible to keep the section in place. Again, I ended up drilling and bolting the lower section in place. I would give the hood 5 stars for appearance and performance, 0 stars for the poorly designed chimney section.

Good but not great

I installed this unit myself about 2 months ago. First impressions were good but not great. There were imperfections and blemishes in the brushed stainless finish even under the protective plastic cling wrap coating. None were deal breakers, but they were there. I expected better for the price. Mounting instructions were very good, and the basic installation was straight forward. I did have to custom order a 6" stainless steel vent hood for the outside of my house. I didn't like any of the junky plastic ones at the big box stores. As for performance, the lights provide just the right amount of illumination over the stove. And as for the fan, on low it moves all the air we would need, and is not very loud. This is good because there is a slight vibration on medium, and that vibration increases on high. It is not a strong vibration, but it is there. Again, I expected better for the price.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Everyone comments on how much they love this hood vent! A bonus is how functional it is. I can cook broccoli, turn the vent on and no one complains about the smell!

Drips Oil and is noisy
on November 17, 2020

We've had our vent hood in our new home for about 6 months. For the last 2 weeks, it has been dripping oil out of the fan assembly. We called GE and a service tech told us it was a design issue. There is only 2 of us, we don't fry foods often and we have never had an issue like this from any other vent hood. We have cleaned the filters multiple times and wiped down the blower assembly, but the oil keeps coming. This issue and the noisy blower and poorly designed column means that it is getting replaced. Called GE customer service and was on hold. I tried multiple times to utilize the call back feature, but it didn't work. After having our new GE dishwasher replaced and our new GE refrigerator serviced, we will never buy another GE appliance and I suggest that you do not either.

Unimpressive

The finish is hard to keep clean, much harder than expected. Power is adequate but I have to limit how many eyelets I have turned on my stove before the hood is overwhelmed and cannot keep up. But my biggest complaint by far is the blower...
My home was built in 2022 with all new appliances, including this one. By the end of 2023 the blower died. Would have thought this to be a fluke, except that I'm hearing story after story of the blower failing after a year or two. Of all the places I've lived for 10 years or more I've never had to replace a blower on a range hood. And the icing on the cake: the costs of replacing a blower is as much as buying a new range hood from another manufacturer.
