Meh, I've had better...

The features are sufficient for a small office setting; however, the machine uses toner like nothing I have ever seen before. I wouldn't recommend this product for a paper intensive office.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

love the Toner feature

I like the all-in-one feature. my old printer did not FAX or scan & was always 'running out of ink' .... because of the 'expiration date'. :( this BROTHER has a toner which will not dry out.

Easy to set up Scan to multiple computers

As staff have joined, I have found the Brother "looks for" new computers on the company wifi easily, and allows new computers to find it and run it, without multiple-step downloads and installs of printer drivers. Especially when a new person just wants to scan something right back to their own PC, even a guest.

Great Printer

Despite noted issues by other buyers regarding wifi connections, I have yet to have any issues whatsoever with the printer. I wish I had gone to laser printer earlier; I would have saved myself a lot of money on ink. I know it is based on personal use, but for me, thus far, I haven't had to worry much about ink. It is worth it.
The only issue seems to be cosmetic. The lid does not close properly (or at least I think it doesn't). There is a spring action that prevents it from closing down smoothly. It will stop maybe 2 to 3 inches from the glass, and if I push it, it will slam on the scanning glass. I do not know if this by design, but it seems to be an awkward way of closing the scanner. Nevertheless, as far as connectivity and functionality, this is the printer for me. I am very happy having this printer.

WORKS GREAT

This printer works great as a wi-fi printer. I can print from my computers, my iPad, and my smartphones. At first I had some difficulty setting it up, but with an updated installation driver app it worked just fine. I like the duplex printing that saves paper. The print quality is good. It starts up quick ly and runs quiet for a laser printer. Overall, I am highly pleased with this printer.

Pros vs. Cons

I used to have Brother mono laser 2270DW. Oh I loved it so much. It never broke. Worked perfectly every time. It survived through my college year, graduate college, and further more. Since then, I had strong belief in Brother company. I wanted to upgrade to higher function, since last model only could only print duplex (wireless, too). I wanted print, copy, scan, fax, all at once. Whoohoo! So I sold my old model and got this model, L2740DW. I connected it wirelessly and works perfect. (prints from my android phone and also from my ipad.) Pro: -good design/compact -easy to use. -sturdy -long lasting. lives upto its value. -programs (or software) and manual available online to download, if you ever lost original box and its content.
Now the only thing that I don't like is scanning software. When I used to have old model and needed to scan document, I used to borrow my friend's HP scanner/printer. The HP model had function of previewing each scanned document and edit (like lighting, contrast, and crop) before I save it to pdf, which is how typical scanners are supposed to be. I installed ControlCenter4 Advance mode (software for L2740W). It has function to adjust lighting and contrast before I even scan the document, but there's no way to look at the preview before its gets saved to the folder. So I have to scan it, open up the saved pdf, look at it. If I don't like it, then go back, change setting, scan again. open up the saved pdf, look at it again. geez. I still don't like it. It realllly annoys me.. And talk about scanning multiple document with each paper in different size and different contrast/lighting, and saving it into one pdf file. It's impossible. And this problem applies to all other format: image, OCR, email, pdf.
Con 1: -software practicality
Solution: I dug through Brother's website and found out that you could use "Windows® Photo Gallery or Windows® Fax and Scan", which allows editing preview image prior saving. I haven't tried this yet. Why not incorporate this function to ControlCenter4? Hmm?
Con2: -feeding port
I tried to scan multiple paper through feeding port on the top of the machine. It kept on feeding it diagonally and ultimately jamming the paper. I tried to restart the machine and redo. Same thing happened. My "unsatisfactory" solution was to hold my fingers against the paper on the side it tends to lean as they feed through the machine. The papers didn't jam this time but scanned document were still tilted a bit, so I ended up individually scanning them on the glass.

Wireless communications is great. Hooked up all 4 computers to it and all work great for scanning and printing. The best printer I have ever had and cannot think of what could be better. AAAAAAAAA++++++++++
