TV perfomance

This is an interesting tv relative to my entertainment needs. I first want to point out that my focus is on OTA local and network channels and streams from Netflix etc as well as live sports on Fox, ABC and CBS etc... Blue Ray watching is not overly prominent in my viewing habits. I also did not care about the smart part of the TV as I set up a laptop connected via HDMI to handle streaming etc. I purchased this tv to replace an older Olevia 42 inch set. After a couple of days of experimenting with different calibration settings and a few days of watching programs and videos I have found what in my opinion are some strong pros and cons about this set.
The pros are as follows:
Appears to be well built.
Easy to set up.
Picture quality is very adaptable to room lighting.
Video quality when streamed through the laptop using VTL is absolutely exceptional. The same applies to Blue Ray when sourced through good BR player.
The array of inputs leaves a lot of flexibility.
Quick selection of picture modes, once the settings are optimized individually for each one makes it easy to make the picture more compatible with different types of programming.
Cons:
The remote while interesting, has given way to my preferring the standard LG remote.
The OTA video quality is in my opinion, average at best. While the colors are are strong and relatively accurate, the clarity of the picture is not good. No matter what I do with the settings, I have not been able to get the clarity in the picture that I would like. I initially had the same problem with the other inputs but that was resolved when I stream videos through VTL via the laptop.This tells me the inboard video engine may be lacking. I took the time to hook up both the LG and my older Olevia through a splitter to watch OTA programing side by side with the settings on each set optimized and to my surprise, the Olevia showed more detail, especially is facial closeups that the 7400 struggled with. The opposite was the case with streamed material through the laptop, again when run through VTL.
I am on the fence as to whether I am going to keep the 7400 because of the above issue. For those who don't care about OTA performance I would not hesitate to recommend the 7400 if one is going to run the smart apps through a computer via HDMI, but for OTA it would be a different story which is why my overall rating would be three stars.

The Tv after several years is in perfect conditions. but thanks to LG i have to dispose it as trash, just beacause there is no software updates, and now, i can only open Youtube, but the apps are useless. Why i have an smart Tv that is not smart?

The picture quality is magnificent! This TV is not just smart it is brilliant, it can even read you web page content. It has so many features to list in most publications. Even after my purchase I was shocked when I figured out it could do much more than I had thought.
LG did it right with this TV!

Great product. Excellent value. After the short time we've had it the ONLY thing I found lacking is the free games available for children. All kids love to play 'Angry Birds'. Unless I missed something it's not in your list and not available. Would be a great addition.

This TV is a super great unit

The old TV went out so we were looking for a basic unit to replace. But once we set our eyes on this TV and with all it feature we were in love with this TV. Going on 2 months and no regrets and everyone that has seen it has fallen in love with the picture.
