Mal, River, Wash, Zoe, Book, Inara, Jane, and River... and let's not forget Serenity herself. A fantastic conclusion to a series that was cut short and unfinished.

Wonderful and odd plot twists, evil yet charming villains, romance coupled with complete frustration. Serenity is filled with opposing forces that are in a constant state of flux.

An absolute must for any Firefly fanatic.

What's great about it: Great wrap up to a complex and unfinished series.

What's not so great: Some plot aspects deleted (but put into special features.)

A fantastic capstone to a show that ended too soon

Serenity is a movie made specifically for fans of the cancelled Firefly television series. Serenity is a spectacular roller coaster ride, providing the viewer with plenty of excitement, twists, turns, and heart wrenching moments. Serenity is a must have for any sci fi fan.

Could have been better

This review is based only on picture quality. It has nothing to do with the script or the acting, both of which are first rate.
I've been buying 4K releases since they first came out, and occasionally replacing some of my older blu-rays with 4K's as they become available. Usually the 4K offers some improvement over the blu-ay, but in this case the improvement in picture quality and color palette was relatively minor. If you already have the this film on blu-ray, there is no need to upgrade to 4K.

Awesome 4K Version of a Great Sci-Fi Movie

If you are interested in the 4k version of this film, you more than likely you know the story, so my review is based on new video and audio formats.

I have purchased the DVD then Blu-ray and finally the 4k version.
This release is by far the best this film has ever looked. I thought the Blu-ray had a good picture and the audio was decent. The 4k is so much better than I thought possible.

The Video
The 4k remaster is fantastic. The HDR is very evident in the way colors pop. With the 4k you get the usual upgrades of clarity and sharpness. Clothing has texture and color that are major improvements over the standard Blu-ray. In the opening sequence there is a vast improvement that gives the film a new depth of field -- almost a 3D quality. In the darker scenes there is improvement in fine detail. You can pick up objects in shadows that were lost in past versions. Because the movie has lots of scenes in both sunlight and the darkness of space, it's a great film to show off your equipment.

Audio
The new DTS-X soundtrack makes great use of the overhead and surround speakers. Dialog is very clear even in scenes with lots of action. While all speakers get a great workout, it doesn't feel forced and of the sound effects feel like they belong.

While 4k is still relatively new, this movie is one of the best upgrades from Blu-ray that I've seen so far. It's the first movie that I would give a 5-star rating based solely on audio and video.

The Greatest Sci-Fi Movie for Non-Scifi fans

I saw this film in theaters and was blown away. Everything from the awesome fight scenes to the great humor fits perfectly because of Joss Whedons writing. This is my first voyage into any of his work and I was immediately interested in the series. A must see for anyone.

What's great about it: Great character developement, awesome digital effects, beautiful music

What's not so great: The end of a series that should have never ended

For anyone who loves Buffy and Angel, this movie is for you. Based on Joss Whedon's show, Firefly, Serenity ties up all the lose ends you wished the show had gotten to do. IT IS AMAZING!!!!
