Great Zoom; Indoor White Balance Problems
on March 14, 2018

I am a Canon fan and have been for over 40 years starting with my first “real” camera, the Canonet GIII QL17 rangefinder. I have had the Powershot SX series from the 40 and I have to say, while I am impressed with the speed and the zoom and it’s a great outdoor camera in sunlight, indoor is not quite as good as the SX40 or SX50. With a slight push and setting the white balance to incandescent, I can get a beautiful white color inside in incandescent light with the 50 or 40. With the SX60, it’s yellow no matter how much you push it. It can be fixed in Photoshop, but it’s an extra step now. I think it’s because the pixel sensor isn’t as wide as the previous models. They reduce it a bit more each time. I also do not like the selection wheel; it’s really difficult to use and I have tiny fingers. Love the non pop-up flash. That’s definitely an improvement, and when compared with the previous models, the resolution is much better with the SX60, although. I’m not sure why Canon couldn’t upgrade it to 20mP as with most cameras. This is a crucial flaw. The screen is larger and a much better resolution, the level is also a good addition. Moving the push button to a completely separate function is weird and hard to get used to, but definitely has potential in that you can now take photos with 3 different settings for HDR. The guide is a different format and making it more like a pamphlet and less like a book makes it more difficult to use. Wifi is not easy to use when transferring to a computer, but is with an iPad. The wider lens is probably one reason why the camera is heavier (along with the longer optical zoom), but both make it well worth the extra weight.

Unless I switch off between shots, the focus holds the previous shot causing any pictures of a differnt focal distance to be totally out of focus
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

SX-60 Excellent Camera
on November 12, 2015

I purchased this a couple days ago not based on the reviews for sure. Seems common sense is not so common anymore. 1. long range shooting you need a tripod not just for this camera for any camera. 2. it's not the greatest in low light however you can use the flash. 3. It's a great deal for what you get in terms of picture quality. I can only compare to SX-30 I used for 3 years for pictures and family/Youtube Videos and I am happy to announce this is a huge improvement. If you are looking for a really good camera at a decent price sx-60 is for you. forget about the bad reviews it like saying a Iphone 4 is better than the Iphone 6? Really?

I love it

Just bought this camera the other day. WOW this thing is awesome so far. Still learning all the features since I'm a beginner and I've only ever used my phone to take pics. So far the pictures have been amazing can't wait to really open this thing up and learn how to use other then the auto settings. Also I can attach my zoom h6 on the top for added audio since it has a extra audio port which was the reason I chose this instead of the nikon p900. Luv it.

looking for 20.3 megapixels

I'm looking for this camera to have 20.3 or 22 megapixel and I would have two.
I have nine (9) CANON models and have never been disappointed. Love the swivel monitor for pictures of under-sides (like vehicle bellies and bottom sides of machinery) and the viewer-finder for sun behind my back.
20 or 22 megapixels with nothing else changed would put this CANON in the 6-star level (over the top so to speak).
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great Camera - Poor Mount Design
on January 9, 2015

from Enid, OK
This camera ignores basic camera technique. Using a lens shade, protective or enhancing filters, & tripods. High tech electronics WILL NOT replace these necessities.
1. Tripod mount is 3/4" right of center, should be centered over lens for best composition of subjects. This also causes the camera to be difficult/impossible to mount on some tripods or shoulder mounts.
2. Both the battery & SD card are mounted in the base adjacent to the tripod mount - door can't open while on a support. To replace the battery or SD card, camera must be removed from any tripod or bracket.
3. The main attraction for this camera is the 65x lens, but to take advantage of this great magnification, we MUST use a tripod. The complaints of image quality are probably due to it being too difficult to mount.
4. Canon, please do a re-design of the mount system & put filter threads & a shade mount back on the lens.

Good, not Great!

I've owned this camera for about 18 months and have used it in a very wide variety of conditions. In normal daylight conditions and not getting crazy on the zoom, even using the Auto setting, the camera takes very good pictures. I enjoy stretching the boundaries using Program shooting mode and get some great results.
I have two areas that seem to continually give me issues. First is in low light conditions. Even using a wide variety of ISO settings the pictures always seem to be quite grainy and not what I expected when I bought this camera. Secondly the camera has great difficulty focusing on subjects when using zoom that is near the maximum optical zoom. The camera seems to focus on just about anything except the subject. When shooting these kind of pictures now, I find that I have much better luck using a tripod or even a monopod. Trying to shoot long zoom shots handheld always seem to be slightly out of focus. Needless to say this is not ideal and forces me to pack more gear than I would like.
I'm going to give this camera one final test before I decide to sell it and get something better. The Total Solar Eclipse is coming across Oregon on August 21st. I plan on using a tripod and ND 100000 filter to be able to shoot all phases of the Eclipse. I hope these pictures come out well, if not, I will be selling this camera.
I have owned 5 other Canon Digital Cameras and this one is by far and away the poorest performing Canon I've ever owned. In my review I will recommend this camera to a friend, but that's not a totally fair response. I wish there were another option like, Maybe, Maybe Not.

Slow to Focus
on January 26, 2016

I bought this camera as a back-up to my Canon DLSR's. I thought the zoom would be great to have when I can't carry all the bulk and weight of my longer lenses. The main issue I have with this camera is that it just takes too long to focus. I wanted the longer lens for bird pictures, but by the time it focused, the birds have flown. I took it back and traded it in for a lumix. I lose some lens length but it focuses as fast as my SLR.
