I bought this with some concern for durability, having read accounts of stripped gears and a general decline in quality compared to older models. So far it was worked fine. It did seem to strain while creaming butter, reinforcing my concerns about durability and build quality. The thing weighs a ton, but the interior components are the more important parts in the long term.

It is difficult to add ingredients to this mixer with the top down. There is a plastic guide to help, but it can be a very messy process.

I purchased the paddle with scraper and that works well.

As of now, I would recommend this with some cautions. Ask again in six years and I'll let you know if this was worth it or not.

Finally, a good one

Purchased one of these for my wife and had some bad luck. First unit was making a grinding noise and stopped turning about 10 minutes into first use. Exchanged for new one and before using, plugged in and was making an even louder grinding noise. Took the second unit back the same day and asked customer service rep to try in store and a few people came to see what all of the noise was. Could hear the unit in the entire store. Asked for new unit, but wanted to see and hear it run before taking it home. Third unit was good and has been good since. Would give 5 stars if not for the bad two units.

Amazing tool but get the pro model

I love and use our kitchenaid many times per week and it is very robust. While the bowl can be difficult to get out sometimes it's not that bad. My only big gripe is the retaining pin that holds the top to the base works itself out all the time! Great machine that allows you to expand your cooking though. Spend the extra cash and go with the pro model.

It arrived basically overnight, was well packaged and easy to set up. Only one issue that was resolved by reading the instructional manual. The beater wasn't making contact with the bowl, we just had to unscrew, adjust the beater and then tighten things back up.

Want to love it (based on life long experience)

I bought this mixer as a gift for my daughter (she is an very meticulously careful, fairly experienced pastry loving adult). Needless to say, she did no abuse it in any way.

She used it off and on mostly during college breaks for about a 1 1/2 years. The gears seemed to have given up on the mixer... And out all the articles, this mixer is the one item I did not buy the 2 or 3 years extended warranty because we never thought it would give up on us in less than 2 years. It stopped working about 4 months ago.
