Great Game System for the Younger Set
on November 4, 2014

LeapTV is an interactive gaming system geared toward a young audience, ages 3-8 years. Today, my husband and I went to take the first test drive of the LeapTV gaming system, and here are our thoughts:
Pros:
• As with all LeapFrog products, you can set different users to have different difficulty levels, which while playing together as a large group allows the younger kids to have the Pre-School questions while the older one have the Elementary school based questions.
• A large variety of games are available for LeapTV, filling interests in many categories; there is something for everyone. And many of your favorite LeapFrog Characters make appearances in the games.
• The camera picks up details of movement extremely well when using your body as a controller, as long as there is not a lot of clutter in the background.
Cons:
• The game controllers are a bit difficult to maneuver. The post controller is at an angle, so occasionally when I felt like I was moving left or right, I ended up crouching or not jumping high enough – this occurred especially in the Spiderman game.
• Some navigation on screen when exiting games was confusing – I thought I was quitting games and ended up circling back and forth a few times before getting where I wanted.
• There were also a few times that the controllers became disconnected in the middle of a game, while we were using them, causing a disruption in our play. And when they seemed to interfere with the camera/body control.
When trying out the system, we played the following games:
1. LeapFrog Kart Racing: Supercharged!: Initially, I bounced from walls to walls, but by the 3rd lap, I was starting to get the hang of it. I am sure that the kids will have the racing mastered in no time, but I am glad that we played the middle level of difficulty.
2. LeapFrog Dance & Learn: We did the jungle jam. The sounding out of words was a bit difficult to hear, and there were times that a repeat would have been nice. It was great to bounce around and grab the stars for extra points.
3. Marvel Ultimate Spider-Man: There is so much to do on each of these levels – collecting pictures, defeating ‘bad guys,’ navigating through stages by crawling on walls, ceilings and jumping over holes. This game is enjoyed by my older kids, as well. The pointer play is great fun as you fling webs at the Octobots and cruise through the city like Spider-Man swinging from building to building.
4. LeapFrog Sports:
a. Baseball, Homerun Derby: After super charging your bat with math problems, each player gets a chance to hit 5 pitches at the different rings set up in the outfield. The pitches were difficult to time, as some were very slow, some oscillated back and forth, and others were very fast. I feel like the more that you play the game; the better you will be able to judge the correct time to swing.
b. Soccer, Goalie: This was super fun to use Body Motion to block shots from the ball blaster. Water Balloons are also thrown in to see if you are paying attention.
Bottom Line: The content is what you expect from LeapFrog – excellently tailored to the Pre-school and early elementary aged children to supplement their at home and at school curriculum. The few quirks in the control and navigation of the LeapTV, are easily conquered by the younger generation.
Pros: Educational, Fun for kids

Exceptional, fun Game Play that Inspires Learning

I received a LeapTV for the purpose of review and testing to share out honest opinion. I'm a mother of a 6 yr old and 8 yr old that love gaming. The LeapTV was really easy to hook up to our television and easy to get started. I swear the kids are more techy than I am. The LeapTV is plug and play game play in a matter of minutes. There's 3 ways to play: body, controller and point play. There's a wonderful selection of games already loaded for kids to chose from and my 6 yr old immediately went for Spiderman game. I was really impressed with all of the game play within this one game. He sat and played with the controller, then stood up to play another part and even had to answer educational questions to move up to the next level within the game. They were perfect for his 1st grade level. He's an okay reader but the narrator made it easy for him. There was a few times where he needed words to be repeated and we weren't able to figure out if that was an option but we guessed and most of the time he was right. I was so impressed on how smart he is, too. Fact is this was probably the very first time I've seen him excited about learning and answering questions. When the game asked for him to change the position of the controller to move on to the next part of the game he knew exactly what to do. LeapTV had my kids physically active,, mentally learning, and excited about LeapTV. There's so much more game play with LeapTv apps and video's and we can't wait to experience it all. LeapTv is kids safe learning at a level that is right for them. No worrying about in appropriate content. It's Educational learning at the right level and fun right in the comfort of your home and we love it.
Pros: Educational, Fun for kids, Grows with child

Great first gaming system for young kids
on November 5, 2014

I've been saying for ages that Leapfrog devices could do with a larger screen. Now Leapfrog has a device with the biggest screen of all -- your tv screen! LeapTV is a great first gaming system for young children, with all the basic components found in most video gaming systems like Wii U and Playstation and Xbox. It includes a console, a game controller (and you can buy multiple game controllers for multiplayer games), and a camera for tracking players' motions.
The three things I love best about LeapTV are that the system is specifically designed to make it easy for little kids, the games contain familiar characters already on other Leapfrog products, and that the games help kids develop important skills in reading, math, and logic.
Easy for kids to use: the game controller has only the most basic buttons, so things don't get too confusing for kids. The handles are chunky and easy for kids to hold. The controller has 2 positions. The first position, with handlebars pointing down, functions as a traditional game controller that kids can use to toggle between selections on a menu and selecting items. they also use it to control certain games like Kart Racing or the Disney Pixar Pals learning game. The second position of the game controller lets the handlebars swivel out to 180 degrees so the child can hold it like a play sword for games like Jake and the Neverland Pirates or Marvel's Ultimate Spider Man. There are other games that do not require the controller at all -- the camera captures kids' movements, so they can dance, jump, and wiggle their way through games.
Familiar characters: Kids will love seeing their favorite characters like Leap and Tad. All the pets in the pet game seem to be the same as the pets in the LeapBand and in the LeapPad.
Educational: all of Leapfrog's games have educational components. For example, in the Kart Racing game, players have to solve math facts in order to build their race cars, then on the race track they have to figure out simple patterns in order to steer their race cars through the correct gate. Kids love it, and they don't even realize they're practicing important skills!
Just a couple of issues. First, game loading can be slow. Second, my sons found the game consoles difficult to get working properly. The toggle switch requires a very light hand, otherwise you'll end up selecting something that you didn't want.
* I received a LeapTV system for review purposes. The views and opinions expressed in this review are my own*.
Pros: Educational, Fun for kids, Grows with child

Perfect for the Holidays!
on November 16, 2014

If you're looking for THE perfect gift this holiday season, the LeapTV is where it's at. First off, I must tell y'all that this is, by far, our most favorite LeapFrog release yet! And that's saying a lot because we REALLY love their products 'round these parts.
Things We Like:
Superior Quality — nice, clean graphics, easy to use interface (far easier that other gaming systems we own), doesn't feel like they took any shortcuts, and doesn't feel cheaply made.
Age Appropriate Content — all of the content is geared towards kids from preschool to about 3rd grade (3-8 years). Our 4 year old learns new math, reading, science and life skills with each play, while our first grader (6 years) is learning new stuff and reinforcing things he's being taught in school.
Built-in-Camera — included is a built-in-camera that actually puts your child into the game. Nico and Lola love getting to grab coins, karate chop wooden targets, etc.
Familiarity — if your kids have used LeapFrog products before, this will feel familiar, but still a totally new experience.
Adjustable Difficulty Level — uses a system to increase/decrease the level of difficulty for educational material in the games, which can be configured when you first turn on the system. Can also be adjusted for multiple users.
Motion Controllers — controllers can be used for both pointer control (use them as a pointer to twist, turn and move) and body motion (to control on-screen action and put themselves in the game).
TV Mount for Camera — comes with a mount that will easily bind the camera to the top of your TV, making it easy to find a position that works for everyone.
I honestly don't have a single negative thing to write about the LeapTV! The fact that they managed to pull off a gaming system that is both fun PLUS teaches you all the things? Well done, LeapFrog, well done! If you're considering taking the leap (get it?) into the gaming system world for kids, the LeapTV (now available in stores) is the way to go!
Pros: Educational, Good for on-the-go play, Fun for kids, Grows with child

Fun & Educational

My very active 5 year old daughter is loving our new LeapTV (especially now that it's too cold to go outside and play). It keeps her body and mind active. I even enjoy playing with her. The body motion is so fun for her and I love that it speaks all instructions and reads any words on screen so I don't have to be there to help her the whole time she's playing. Best gaming system we've owned for her age!

Hot new gaming system for the younger child!

I have five daughters from 16 to 7. The older kids have an Xbox 360 to play on but the games are really limited for the younger kids. I often thought it would be nice to have a system made just for the younger kids... LeapFrog must have read my mind.
What is really nice about LeapTV, aside from the ease of use no matter what your age, is that it uses cartridges instead of dvds! So no more scratched, unusable games!
The menu screen is an easy-to-use carousel-style interface with audio prompts to differentiate each selection, so even non-readers can navigate the menu. The images on the tv screen looked fairly clear with little distortion.
We had kids from almost 2 to 11 playing on the LeapTV and it was a big hit with them all, even some of the adults were sneaking in a few turns. There were lots of laughs and silliness going on throughout the afternoon. I have a feeling this gaming system is going to be a popular item with Santa this year.
Pros: Educational, Fun for kids

Our Favorite LeapFrog Product Yet!

This is our favorite LeapFrog product yet! We own several versions of the LeapPads and various other products. While all those are wonderful, LeapTV has been a blast for my kids! We have another game system, but it is too difficult for my 3.5 year old daughter and only a few games are applicable for my 6 year old son. Both kids are able to play LeapTV independently, they are moving, answering academic questions and loving it. My son is obsessed with Spider-man game and my daughter loves the Princess Sophia game. I would definitely recommend this to a friend. I live in Wisconsin and with the long winters, the LeapTV offers the perfect place to put ALL that energy.

Athletic comfort zone

The reason most motion games don't incorporate education is because it's so difficult to keep up physically that your mind can't keep up. But even brainiacs need to excersize in order to prevent themselves from being called nerds.
That being said, the sound is a bit spotty. It may be my TV, but I can't tell for sure. Just wanted to put it on the record.
Pros: Educational
