Exceptional Camera!
on December 30, 2013

I received this camera as a gift after much researching knowing this was the camera I wanted. The camera is flawless in performance, from the feel of it in your hands to the location of the buttons and other parts of the body. The image quality is amazing! I came from a Canon Powershow S3 with 6 MP and honestly didn't know a picture could look this good.
If you are looking to get into the DSLR game this a a great entry level camera. Once you put the camera into Manual (M) mode the camera really comes to life. Choosing focal points and various settings start to become more fluent and pictures come out better and better.
Attached is my first successful night shot which I honestly cannot believe came out as well as it did. This camera is a must buy!

Balance and Useability
on May 3, 2014

Switching from Canon to Sony equipment. Using this camera in the studio and as a backup for Landscapes. Balanced and works with a variety of Tamron lenses so versatility is a key here. Crisp, clear and full color range in all the pic. Little need for post production work on the pics.

Quality Control Slipped On This One
on July 8, 2013

This lens produces outstanding images with my A55 camera. However, zooming in and out is not smooth at all. Matter of fact, it is choppy at best. This should not be in a lens of otherwise high quality.
Quality control slipped on this one.
What's great about it: Takes great pics
What's not so great: Zooming in and out not smooth; choppy at best
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

not great but ok

This camera does not use full size of the sensor when recording video. So no nice widescreen videos with kit objective. About 20% of sensor edges are not in use when recording video. Panoramic image recording does not also use full width or height of the sensor. It also does not indicate on the screen how much it uses. Audio recording is only automatic - no manual controls. Autofocus motor is quite noisy.
What's great about it: big battery
What's not so great: video recording not as good as expected
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Trouble focusing in action photography
on May 20, 2015
Posted by: Brye
We shoot a lot of outdoor action photos -- primarily horse eventing. This camera takes great photos of non-moving objects, but we cannot seem to get clear, crisp action photos. The camera is supposed to detect the main image you want to focus on while shooting -- but oftentimes it will focus on the background or a pole or something else that is part of the action photo. When reviewing the image it looks good upon first glance, but as you zoom in, the faces and/or main subject are soft. Any advice on how to fix/improve this would be appreciated.
I would recommend this to a friend!
Response from sony.comBy Mitch, Sony Support, May 22, 2015
Hi Brye,
We recommend changing the focus area to center or flexible spot to be able to choose the position of the focus. Also, before taking the shot, we suggest pressing the shutter button halfway to lock in the focus. Changing to a faster shutter speed may also be helpful in taking action shots.

no more a-mount camera
on August 8, 2015

camera is good, but probably the last alpha i have. I had three A-mount lenses and now, the choice for the camera body for this price range is limited to only one. yeah, i know there is adopter but which means a extra cost and it is so unnecessary. Although I had great time with alpha, the last camera i had went to lot of places with me including Tibet, Hawaii, Fiji and is reliable. I drop it from second floor and watch it rolls to downstairs but still working. It last longer than two water proved W serious I had. As matter of fact, I been using same camera body for last 10 years. Since Sony seems like going to have E-mount phase out the A-mount, I dont want to spent any more money to buy the same type of camera lenses You know, never heard Canon or Nikon or Leica change the size of their mount. I should listen to my friends so I dont have to through more than 3 grands in the water. I know adopter is cheap but who knows if sony will get a newer mount to replace the E?
