Awesome camera

I recently purchased the 7D Mark ll. I tried it out in different forms of shooting. It is ok for portraits however I found out it is set up for sports and wildlife. The camera is very fast picking up and focusing on the subject. it is a big step up from my t2i. It has a very nice balance to it especially when using Canon 70-200 2.8L lens. It is packed with a lot of features that I have yet to use. Yes the camera is heavy however I do most of my shooting from a tripod. The only issue I have with the Canon 7D Mark ll is the battery life is not long. I would of rather had Wi-Fi then GPS. I have not tried the video side of the camera but plan on it very soon. Yes this is an awesome camera and has performed very nicely. Great job Canon. Very well made and feature packed crop camera.

Big advance over 7D

This camera builds on the already excellent 7D, but fixes some of the annoyances, greatly improves the autofocus, and high ISO image quality is greatly improved.
The new features I find most useful for sports shooting are the exposure compensation in manual mode with auto ISO, ability to set upper/lower bounds on shutter speed and aperture in P/Av/Tv modes, and ability to configure custom modes to be "sticky". The first two allow me to customize exposure in useful ways for particular events (e. g. for shooting football, using P mode with minimum shutter speed of 1/800, allowing it to float up when there's enough light). The latter lets me fine tune custom modes without having to remember to save them.
The AF is much better; I'm getting a lot better keeper rate than with the 7D with even minimal adjustment. It's probably the most complex enhancement and it's worth study and experimentation.
High ISO is a lot better. It's supposedly 2/3 stop better, but it's easy to clean up ISO 8000 to quite a bit better than ISO 5000 on the 7D. With anti-flicker I also get more consistent exposure shooting basketball indoors. All of this is allowing faster shutter speeds, which indoor sports shooters know all about. I was stuck with 1/400 on the 7D and usually getting ISO 6400 at f/2.8; I'm going to be shooting at 1/640 and ISO 10000 this weekend (I may even try 1/800 and ISO 12800). Thanks to anti-flicker, I consistently ETTR (no some shots are too hot, some are dark), which makes the noise a lot easier to clean up.
The 7D mark II may not have a lot of checklist features such as big pixel count increase, flip screen, or wi-fi, but this camera's designed as a no holds barred APS-C action camera. Use it for what it was designed for, and you'll really appreciate it.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great upgrade
on February 27, 2015

My wife and I both upgraded from original 7D's to the 7D mkII's and could not be happier! The mkII has better resolution, and the noise reduction at higher ISO is striking. We do wildlife photography and need high ISO for early morning shooting and for faster shutter speed for catching motion. The mkII handles this much better than the original 7D with much less noise at higher ISO. Also the additional focus points are a great aid in composing wildlife shots, better able to focus on the eye and still include the entire body in the frame.
The relocation of some of the controls on the body took a little getting used to, but an easy trade-off for better images.
We are both extreamly happy with the 7d mkII's.

I already have the 7D but wanted a faster camera for birds "in flight". This camera is better than I expected. It obviously has some new features but a few I didn't know about until I put it through it's paces. I couldn't be happier!!

Canon D7 Mk II - Go for it
on January 23, 2015

The Canon D7 Mark Ii is as good as it was advertised and is a worthy addition to any serious photographer's equipment. It is simple to use with a very easy layout of adjustment buttons. And the pictures are guaranteed quality in any conditions.
I only had one small issue in buying the kit. Some of the additional free items were not in stock and a month later they are still coming arriving. (The camera came fast). But the are on their way.

Great Camera, now a successor

What a camera it is. It still is , in 2020.
Really perplexed by the lack of a successor for so long.
A successor would definitely givee other brands a few sleepless nights.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Amazing wildlife and birding camera!

I switched a year ago and I'm so very pleased with the results with this camera. As a birder I demand the sharpest and most detailed images with low noise and an AF-system that REALLY can track birds in flight. With the excellent lenses I got 100-400 II, 400 DO II and 600mm IS II, I'm getting much better results then with my previous system, I'm looking forward to whenever this camera will be coming out with an MK III version and will be first in line to buy it....
