Love this camera

A big increase in capability over my EOS 40D. I didn't buy it for the video capability, but I find myself using it quite a lot. The low light capability is much better than my old camera too. It pays to spend time learning and experimenting. The built in HDR and time lapse will allow some interesting cloud over the mountain shots during Arizona's monsoon season.

Upgraded from T5i and wow the fps just blew me away. I've been shooting off road racing and now I'm able to capture the race as never before. The continuous photos are amazing. Other photographers at the race are also just amazed at the camera and the finished product. GREAT job canon with the 7D Mark II.

iffy focus for me

Camera is fantastic in AI Servo mode for me. I'm still trying to figure out if my single point auto focus is working correctly. Image quality and high ISO is better than my 7D. Is way faster in cold weather than my 7D. I don't see a problem with the battery life unless reviewing photos a bunch. If I can get the single point auto focus working correctly it's a winner. If not I'll send it in on warranty for repair.

I have had the 7D Mark II body for a few weeks, I bought the 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM lens at the same time, but that has been back ordered until just a couple of days ago. What a sweet pair they make! I would characterize myself as an "ambitious amateur" and wanted to buy a camera that I could grow into. Certainly the 7D Mark II more than meets that description.
You have probably read many reviews on this camera, so for now all will say is that the functionality is superb. I am making the big jump from an 8 year old EOS camera and while there a lot more features, the layout is consistent with the older camera and fairly intuitive.
The lens appears to be amazing. Focusing is lightning fast and whisper quiet. Set the shutter to "silent" mode and few people will even notice that you are taking pictures.
I am very excited to shoot photos of migrating waterfowl when they come through this area in a couple of weeks. Then it is on the The Masters Tournament which was the impetus for the purchase in the first place. My expectations were high going in and so far they have been met.

Great camera...Well built, feels great in my hands

The 7D Mark II is a great camera. The auto focus in many reviews I read took time to get use to, I've had no issue with that. This is my 3rd Canon DSLR . My lenses are both crop and full frame lenses, both work awesome with this camera. My favorite 24-70mm f2.8 is a full frame lens and works great with this camera. The tank (I call it) my 70-200f2.8 is the best and performs just fine with this camera. I shoot a lot of sports action and the 10fps was what sold me. Might only get 1 or 2 great shots out of the 10 BUT you have the 1 or 2 you need. The duel card slots are a plus, I like the speed of the CF but also it's nice to have the SD as a back up, never running out of card space. You can also add a WIFI card in the SD slot. Anybody looking for professional photos on a crop sensor camera this is where you
want to go. With this camera you can use both lenses...
I would recommend this to a friend!

Love this upgrade

Upgraded from the 7D with the hope that this will be a 5D Mark 3 in sheep's clothing and it is. Just shot two events, one at a mall and a very dimly lit wedding with excellent results.
Focusing is so much better and the camera is quiet compared to the older model. The only thing that has thrown me for a loop is that I have to use Canon's software to upload my raw images. Lightroom and other programs I tried, cannot read the images. Hopefully this will change soon.
Other than this, I highly recommend the camera.

This camera is out of a dream. It focuses extremely fast and accurately. Take the time to learn how to use the new toggle/joystick combo as it will be your new best friend to really make the camera's AF system sing. The 7D Mark II feels like an extension of me as the controls are exactly where they should be and really helps to perfect the vision you have when capturing your subject through the lens.
In just one weekend this took a shot that was already published online by one of the local TV stations in Austin. This is a camera that will make you want to become a better photographer because if your pictures are not good, you only have yourself to blame.
Is it too much camera for the average person? Probably. But it is for the artisan in you. And the artisan really wants it. Trust me and don't deny your inner artist. If you have the creativity and the vision, this will unleash it. Beautifully.

7D Mark II

I have been using the 7D Mark II for over a year now. I upgraded to the 7D Mark II from a 70D. I photograph mostly birds, birds in flight and wildlife. The 7D Mark II does an amazing job with AF and allows me to choose from a number of different AF configurations. The 7D Mark II finds and then locks onto a subjects incredibility well. The ability to assign button on the camera to customize it's function is very helpful and allows for a great deal of flexibility. I have assigned function for at least four buttons and use them frequently. When photographing the ability to quickly go from single point to single plus 4 or 8 or more is very helpful for quick changes when photographing birds that change from perching to flight rapidly. The 10 frames per second rapid burst is useful for a number of situations especially birds in flight. I also like the ability to put the camera on S mode which is almost silent for situations where I don't want to disturb the wildlife I am photographing. I also like the GPS inside the camera, when I travel it is easy to capture your location when pictures are uploaded to an editing program like Lightroom.
This is a great camera, and when used with the new 100-400mm 4.5-5.6 L IS USM Mark II lens makes and incredible combination giving incredible pictures.
Two features of the 7D Mark II I would like to see improved. Only having the exposure meter inside the view finder on the right side needs to be changed. If you are looking at all toward the sun the exposure becomes very difficult or impossible to see. I frequently have to raise my hand up to block the light so I can see the exposure. Put it on the LCD panel so I can see what my setting need to be WITHOUT having to raise the camera to my eye, where I might not be able to see it at all. Lastly the camera needs better ISO performance. 2000 ISO is about the maximum I can use, and in low light much less than that or my pictures are grainy.
Not perfect, but this combination is a definite keeper for me. Maybe on the Mark III they will have a flexible touch screen, bluetooth to connect to my phone for GPS and improve the ISO ability for the perfect camera.
I would recommend this to a friend!
