I am the one with the "Err 01" out of box with my beloved efs 17-55 f/2.8 that has performed flawlessly with two previous canon bodies. So far, on a road trip from deep South Texas to Zion Canyon and Yosemite, a few hundred photos later, now in Abilene Texas, with IS enabled, no errors! Is this a matter of break-in?! The error before, upon initial unboxing and mounting of lens was almost reproducible at will. Now, on the road and taking random shots, we are happily composing and clicking and making keepers.

Perfect Action Camera

Finally, an affordable camera optimized for shooting moving subjects (wildlife or people): great AF, great frame rate, and reasonable weight.

Great for high speed

I used the 7DII for wildlife shots when I need either the extra reach of the crop factor or the high frame rate. I have been impressed with the improvements and results. I have used it now on location in cold and damp conditions in Alaska with grizzlies and the hot dry conditions in India shooting tigers. It works well in the full range. My only concern is the light sensitivity is not as great as the full frame cameras, but still very workable.
This is my 2nd camera and generally use the 5DMIII as my primary for nature and wildlife.

Exposure comp. setting in viewfinder worthless

When I got the camera I was so jazzed to go out and shoot. My old rebel had the exposure compensation setting on the lower portion of the viewfinder which was super easy to see and adjust to with the camera next to the eye. The Mark 2 has this on the right side of the viewfinder and it is VERY DIFFICULT to see in any light. I have to hold the camera in the right hand, cover the top of the camera and eye area with the left so I can see where the arrow is, then I can adjust the arrow up or down for proper settings - I hate it. Other than that I love the rest of the camera as it works excellent. I'm going to try and find a different rubber eye cup that will help shield the sun.

Canon...why do you mess up already good features?

For the 7D MII canon decided to make viewing your pictures more difficult. Previously you could hit play, and immediately zoom and pan with easy to use bottons. Now you have to his play, then a separate zoom button, and then used the dials to zoom. Much less user friendly. Enough so I will stick with my old 7D. Its like when they removed the custom timing settings from the old G series. It had the ability to do time lapse, unlimited multiple exposures...then they took it away. Why? it was a great feature!! I would recommend canon 7D 2, but maybe not over the original.

just disappointments

I upgraded from the 7D to M2. Pic. quality is way inferior. focusing depth is poor. Many of my pictures used to be crisp. Could get focus on people but cannot even get a group of 5 all in focus. GPS? ya it keeps sucking the battery but many many pics aren't tagged - works better on an iPhone.... Night pics? the old 7D used to take great night pics this one won't trigger.... same lenses...

I Wish I Had Stuck With My Old 50D
on January 22, 2017

Bought this about a year ago and I can't say I'm impressed. I have had a higher throwaway rate with this camera than I did with either my 40 or 50D.
The autofocus system, even when set to illuminate, does not provide for easy tracking for a moving object. I've used both zone tracking and single-point focusing and the results have been largely the same--disappointing overall.
Since I can't sent it back, I'm thinking seriously of cutting my losses and just selling this thing for whatever I can get for it and going back to the 50D full-time. The 7D does not appear to be an upgrade by any means.
