This game is most definately better than the first and that is no small feet. I have bought other shooter games that have just came out and none compare to gears except maybe resistance fall of man 2 and an older game call of deuty 4. The graphics are better than one, not by much but noticible. the cover system was really fixed so their is less chance of going from cover to cover when your actualy trying to get out of cover or simply run. the new weapons are incredible and the overall lenth of the game is acceptable and I say that because as a gears fan I did not realy want it to end. I also think that the last boss battle should have been a little more difficult but it was still very hot. And yes I am going for the 2.0 achievment,l 200,000 kills. This a great addition to the gears franchise.
What's great about it: all
What's not so great: online does not have a stand alone mode but that would not go with the game premis

Actually bought Gears 2 so i am telling a honest review, great game overall long and challenging storyline many playlists to chose form for multiplayer co-op campaign but matchmaking is slow compared to games like halo3 and cod4. Still great fun!
What's great about it: Graphics gameplay sound multiplayer

Epic did it agian, this time ten-fold! Game play is smoother, graphics are tighter and game play is amazing. Haven't been a fan for long but I'm in awe at the work put in! Character development scores huge points, as well as the voice over work, it was on point. I might have a new all time favorite game, not since Red Faction and the first Halo have I been this passionate about a game. The ending wasn't as EPIC as anticipated but none the less, I was happy to see my troops come home! I can't wait for GOW3! FRAG THE LOCUST and CLAIM VICTORY!
What's great about it: fast paced shoot em' up game play with a sense of patriotism!
What's not so great: The ending wasn't as epic as anticipated.

The best game ever by far. It beats the first Gears by a longshot. The matchmaking is a little different but much better. The campaign is absolutely ridiculous!! If you didn't get the first one, go get it and then play this one(the campaign kind of ties in).

This is basically an add-on to GW1 but don't let that stop you. GW1 was/is a great game. The weapons additions are not extensive but worth it; flame thrower has it's uses but I don't keep it in my inventory. The storyline holds better and it really gets into the characters; this one really has you feeling impending doom as the story goes. Some difficulties with getting character to post up on cover which doesn't happen on my system with GW1. The main reason I can not give GW2 5 stars is simple. Too much like arcade. I buy and play 1st person shooters becaue I want the combat, shooting, strategizing, and wooping up on the enemy. Both GW games have way, way too much arcade style play (such as jumping through craching teeth while in the belly of the worm. Really distracts from the game and the combat experience and there is way to much of it, more than in GW1.
If I had rented the game first, I still would have purchased it at reg. price.
What's great about it: Graphics, new weapons, more put into the story than GW1

The wait is over. For two years, we finally have a copy of Gears of War 2 in our hands. Time to get my chainsaw wet!<br> The many cinematics in GoW2 are amazing. I have always liked art that depicts humanity of the brink of extinction, colors of dark grays, the blacks and some white hues. The visual aspect of the game gives the player a feeling of humanity's desperation for survival. The introduction cinematic narrates the story from the first Gears of War. And now, the Locusts have been re-building and are ready to finally rid the human infestation. After the cinematic, you can either choose 'Training' or 'Skip Training'. This is your call. If you have played the first GoW, then what more can you learn now, that you haven't learned already. Right? Now, if you are a noob to the GoW saga, then by all means, please take the 'Training' path. Here you will meet the newest gear of Delta Squad, Ben Carmine. Marcus is back, along with Dom. And each have his reason for returning to the fight. The characters are fully fleshed out. As you play in the campaign, you find sentiment in your heart for each gear in Delta squad. EPIC really out-did themselves. The original weapons are back, some have been tweaked. Also, what's a sequel without new weapons? The flamethrower is new...seems to be a popular weapon in another game. The mortar is an awesome weapon. The mortar will bring a rain of death for whomever is unable to find cover. The mulcher, the name is awesome, is a minigun. Go out there with this weapon and it's time to do some landscaping. With new weapons, new types of enemies are always right behind. The Kantus are a gangly priest class of Locusts who can resurrect fallen locusts without being near to them, so, obviously, you have to take them out before tackling a Locust horde. Big ol'Locusts called Butchers are a sight. They remind me of the Boomers, but along with the Butchers, there are other variations of the Boomers. The Wretches have a new toy, the Tickers, walking landmines...oh joy! Since you killed off General Raam in the first GoW, there is a new sheriff in town. He, or it, goes by the name of Skorge. One word of caution, just watch out for his dual-chainsaw staff. The controls are still the same. Basic moves are untouched, but now, EPIC has added a nice killing touch with the 'Curb Stomp'. Gamers, first and third-person shooters, you got to have love for the 'Curb Stomp.' It breaks my heart to hear a teammate gripe when a locust dies just before my teammate can perform the 'Curb Stomp.' Such violence in us...heh. Oh well! At least there is the 'Meat Shield.' For obvious reasons, you can't run with a dead body as a shield. You have your 'Meat Shield' by the throat, pistol cocked, and strolling out into the open. Bullets whizzing by, hitting your temporary locust accessory, and you pop off a few rounds into the enemies. What better way to enjoy a shooter? The replay value of GoW2 is in the multiplayer. Horde Mode is awesome. Just sheer Locust shootings. Wave after wave after wave of Locusts. You ran out of ammo? Well, too bad, better find a replacement, and quickly, if you want to keep the team alive. In fact, forget the campaign, just jump right into a Horde match and have some gruesome Locust fun! The competitive matches are back. Your team versus their team. Not much different from the first. All in all, I love Gears of War 2! Need I say more? If you have a 360, then buy Gears of War 2...now! If you loved the first GoW, then buy Gears of War 2...which you probably have already done. If, you like shooters and have not played the first GoW...shame shame, then you must buy Gears of War 2...NOW!
