Upright vs. chest freezer

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] After 37 years with the SAME chest freezer, we decided it was time to get a new freezer. We like this new upright a lot but it is much larger than the chest & it makes more noise than the old one, too. Other than that, so far so good!

Could be 5 stars with more quality control

The freezer itself works well but its internal design is more like that of a refrigerator than a freezer and is designed for people who buy a lot of pre-cooked meals, pizzas etc. Thanks to the people who gave reviews on line I planned ahead and bought 2 extra compartments for the door. Bad planning that they left so much wasted space. The shelves are too flimsy and small for people like myself who buy whole pieces of meat or whole turkeys or chickens. My previous freezer had metal wire type shelves and pull out baskets. The instruction book was worse than useless as its generic and not geared to a specific model. It said it was factory set to the correct temperature so we plugged it in and waited. After a few hours of showing 75deg we realized it was not pre-set - you actually had to set it to zero yourself. After that it cooled down. After removing the tape from the soft freeze ice cream section inside the door the little door on it fell open and had no way to stay closed. Every time we closed the freezer the little door fell open. I went on line and apparently it's supposed to have little magnets inside but mine had none. I also tried to raise the top shelf but could not figure out how to do so. I called the manufacturers phone number listed in one of the reviews and they said they would send me a new soft freeze section for the door. ( this arrived within a week)They also told me how to raise the upper shelf. Since then the freezer has been working well and has good seals on the door ( you need 2 hands). The so called soft freeze ice cream section is not! The ice cream has to be set out to melt before you can put a scoop in it. My main complaint is with the inner layout and the useless user manual that tells you nothing.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Really Runs Quiet

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We've had our new Frigidaire freezer for a month now and it runs and performs great. It is extremely quiet and has a lot of nice features our old Frigidaire did not have. We are hoping this freezer works as well as our previous Frigidaire. We had no service calls ever! I noticed the energy usage rating is much less than the old one so that will help reduce our electric consumption. I would have given this unit 5 stars except for 2 reasons. The door is very hard to open. You need to hold the door frame with your thumb and pull the door handle firmly with the other hand. It's like vacuum packed. This may be hard for older people, with less arm strength, to open. The new freezer has glass shelves. I prefer the wire shelves I had in the old unit. In my opinion the wire racks are easier to clean and allow more air circulation. Again, just my opinion!

I have had it running for about 5-6 weeks and it is very pleasing to the eye, the temperature read out is very nice to see. The interior lighting is amazing and there are no dark areas for anything to hide. Extreamly pleased with our purchase.

1 Quick cool-down on initial startup.
2 Big.
3 Accurate digital temperature control on outside.
4 Flexible shelving.
5 LED lighting is very effective.

1 Door will take 6 "pockets", but comes with only 3. Must buy additional 3 for $75 to fully take advantage of storage in door.
2 Door takes a bit of effort to open. If you open door, close it, and then decide to open it again immediately you will find if difficult to re-open. Best to wait a couple of minutes then try again.
3 Ice cream compartment is small. However, if you set the freezer to -5F, the compartment is still at 0F and can be used for general storage.
