Well folks, Bethesda has done it again. Fallout 3 is hands down one of the best games of 2008, being knocked from the top by Gears of War 2 (in my opinion). In a long line of great games, Fallout 3 will be at the top with Oblivion, Mass Effect, Call of Duty, Gears of War, and many others as one of the legends. I mean, who can't like an open-world game where your every decision affects the gameplay? The weapons are somewhat unique for the most part. The main story is pretty short, but the amount and length of the sidequests more than make up for that. The graphics are amazing, with every color, the landscape, buildings, etc being richly detailed. Every second, minute, and hour I spent playing were not a waste at all. This game is a must have for everybody.
What's great about it: Weapons, story, and how your decisions affect gameplay.
What's not so great: Can be a little annoying having to walk everywhere.

First off, this is one heck of a game. I normally play FPS but I thought I would give this one a go. This game draws you into the world and the game play is very good. Just as in real life, in the game, you can make choices and they have consequences.

This has to be one of if not the best game I have ever played. I just absolutely love this game. Awesome graphics, fantastic storyline. erir soundtrack, it doesn't miss a beat. The new add ons for the game improve it even further. No multiplayer though which is a shame, I could really get into wandering the Wasteland with a group of friends online.
What's great about it: Everything - Do what ever you want, when you want

I'm honestly not sure why people say this game is hard to play and/or boring. If you think it's hard to play you may need to rethink the way you have your character set up or how often you heal, there are stimpaks nearly everywhere, and plenty of stuff to sell that you get from just wandering around to buy them with. And I must admit, you actually need to think sometimes about how you set/level your character up. If you think it's boring, you probably shouldn't be playing an RPG, as it requires talking to people and exploring, not just constantly shooting and jumping on things.
That aside, Fallout 3 is a great game for the RPG fan, and maybe a decent one for the FPS fan. If you have no skill at FPS's, that's what the VATS system is, it's basically a strategic way to shoot people. It pauses the game and allows you to select what target and where you would like to shoot/hit/throw grenade at. The VATS system is limited so sometimes it will come down to blind fire or beating something to death, which is where the FPS player will shine, even though the controls are a little sluggish compared to standard FPS's.
There's plenty of skills to customize your character type, the brutish guy that beats things to death with a sledge hammer or the stealthy sniper that kills things from afar, or maybe the guy that likes to shoot things in the face with an automatic shotgun. There's tons of weapons and clothing/armor to use, and there are a bunch of miscellaneous items to collect/decorate your one of two ownable houses.
Karma is an interesting system, if you steal something your karma goes down, if you give water to a thirsty hobo, your karma goes up. It can be affected by little things like that or by big things like blowing up an entire town or saving the world.
There are a lot of main missions and tons of side quests, plus places to explore that don't have missions associated with them but have their own little stories to discover and learn if you're interested.
Fallout 3 is a great game, especially for the RPGer, but don't expect to pick it up and be able to just run around shooting at everything you see in a post-apocoliptic environment.
What's great about it: Length, Customization, Number of Weapons and Item types.
What's not so great: Level Cap, Patience is needed sometimes.

My best friend bought me the Xbox 360 Elite for my birthday, and he also bought me this game with a few add-ons to go with it :) This game is amazing to me. I first played it on the PS3, but the Xbox 360 is honestly an overall better gaming system. The gameplay is very fun, and it's fun getting achievements to raise your gamerscore on the Xbox 360. I beat the game, and it's a good feeling once you beat it :) If you feel the game is too hard, you can always change the difficulty. The higher the difficulty, the more experience you'll gain from killing people and creatures. If you ever get bored of the storymode, you can play one of the add-ons. If you have not bought Fallout 3 yet, I highly recommend you buy the "Game Of The Year Edition" because it comes with all the add-ons for the game.
Hope this helped :)
What's great about it: It's worth every penny.
What's not so great: There's sometimes glitches in the game, there's no online gameplay.

I personally wasn't a fan of Fallout 3. I got the game and was really excited to play it after all of the hype and knowing that it was a role-playing FPS. The role-playing part was done perfectly. Awesome customization and skillsets make the game your own. Don't want to use small guns? Specialize in the big mamba jambas! I loved that about the game. That was about it though. The graphics were okay, but I wasn't blown away or anything. The FPS was... lacking. I liked the auto lock-on feature, but it felt like the FPS was just thrown into what should've been a nicely polished RPG.
It's worth checking out, but I'd say rent it instead of buy it.
