[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I honestly didn't think I would ever want a stand mixer. But, after receiving one for Christmas, I decided to make room on my counter for it and embrace it (the minty green color is perfect in my kitchen). Now, I'm loving it! I've already made a couple of cakes and brownies and it was great for that. What really impressed me, though, was when I used it for meatloaf. I've always hated mixing meatloaf by hand. My new KitchenAid had everything combined in seconds - without me having to get my hands messy! Looking forward to finding lots more uses for it in the near future.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received my KA SM as a bridal shower gift and couldn't be happier with it! Makes whipping egg whites for meringue and mixing so much easier. I look forward to buying some attachments to make pasta and such with this versatile machine. Would recommend a KA SM to anyone and everyone.

Over 16 yrs old and still working strong

I bake a lot. A lot as in just about daily. A lot as in I bake so much that I stock 6 different types of flours; 8 types of gluten free flours; and 4 types of sugars. I purchase eggs in 5 dozen flats. I don't remember the exact year I bought my Ultra (I call her ol' Bertha) but it was at least 16 years ago. I admit the plastic covers on the the power switch and the screw for the attachment cover have cracked and fallen off. But other than that ol' Bertha is still humming along.
I regularly mix batters, cookie doughs, pate a choux, croissants, meringues, buttercreams, whipped creams with this machine.
However, I only occasionally mix panettone, challah, paska, brioche, and bread doughs because countertop planetary mixers are not designed for frequent mixing of heavy doughs.
Kitchenaid is a well made machine, but proper use and care is a major factor in the longevity of any mixer. Kitchenaid, and all planetary mixers are not designed for regular mixing of heavy doughs like bread and pizza. I know a dough hook is a standard attachment. But these mixers should not be pressed into service for regular mixing of heavy doughs. Bakers who primarily bake bread should consider a spiral mixer that is designed for bread dough, or the countertop Hobart.
