Bakers Dream come true? Not really.

I grew up with my mom having a Kitchen Aid mixer for as long as I can remember. Like my mom, I bake all the time and my dream was to get one as a wedding gift. I waited for decades... then my dream came true, I got married and my parents got us this stainless model as a gift.
One top load wash of the flat beater in the dishwasher and all the stainless coating came off. Then the grey powder coating came off on my hands. How cheap!! No idea if it is food safe now. See the picture below. Both mom and I were greatly disappointed. Kitchen Aid should clearly disclose on the outside of the box that the accessories for this model are NOT dishwasher safe. My parents would have chosen a different one had they known. Now I have to buy all the coated accessories for Christmas instead of purchasing additional accessories.
There was a tiny slip of paper that disclosed that the whip accessory is not dishwasher safe in the bottom of the box. There was nothing in the paperwork I could find about the dough hook or the flat beater not being top rack dishwasher safe.
Kitchen Aid also upgraded the traditional bowl to one with a handle. At first I was excited about this but then I realized the bowl only locks in the clockwise direction rather then both directions (my moms locks in both directions). Being left handed, counter clockwise would work better for me but I can adapt to it. You can actually see the pins for the handle on the inside of the bowl(see picture below). As an engineer, this is a little alarming. No idea how long or if this bowl will last.
Anyway, not much of a dream come true for me. Once I replace the accessories, the mixer will serve its purpose.
I would perhaps recommend a different model Kitchen Aid mixer to a friend but NOT this model. My husband and I own several other Kitchen Aid products and have been happy with them.

My wife and I have been so excited to buy a KitchenAid and both of us putting money away and wanting one so badly. Talk about a heart crushing disappointment. First thing we try to make was possibly using the included recipe but the machine wasn't strong enough to even turn it after a min or 2. I can such a disappointment. Won't scrape the bowl clean still bogs down doesn't completely stop which is nice but certainly would never buy again and so disappointed we were so excited to get one.

A Long-lasting Workhorse

My grandparents bought me my KitchenAid as a wedding gift 28 years ago. I have used it many hundreds of times since then, and it has never faltered. More recently my son has taken up baking, and now I will come home, open my cabinet and...no mixer. But it seems none the worse for wear for traveling between our houses weekly. These mixers are an investment that pays off.
