Just what I wanted!

When our old freezer quit working and was cost prohibitive to fix, I started looking for a new one of a specific size and with specific features. It was not long before I narrowed my search down to this GE chest freezer. First of all, I wanted a new freezer that was Energy Star rated, and there are not that many out there. I intend to have this freezer for many years to come and I wanted one that was efficient to run and wouldn't put a big hit on our electric bill. Actually, our old freezer was about twenty years old and non Energy Star compliant, so we should be saving money each month with this new one from G.E. Secondly, I was looking for specific features that our old freezer did not have. I wanted a power light on the outside of the unit so at a glance I would know if the freezer was working. Before, I had to lift the lid and let warm air into it to see if the light in it would turn on. I also wanted controls on the front of the unit where they were easy to access. My old one had them on the side where they were hard to get to. I also wanted more storage on the inside of the freezer for small food items, smaller items were constantly getting buried in the bottom of our old freezer where they would lay dormant and forgotten for way too long and then you had to deal with freezer burn. Our new G.E. chest freezer has three sets of baskets that hold all our smaller items at the top of the freezer where they are easy to see and get to. I also wanted a drain on the freezer to make defrosting it simpler and less of a chore to deal with in the future. We are also pleased with the looks of our new freezer and find it attractive, nicely finished and it looks like it should stay this way with minimal effort. Lastly, and this is a big one, we have had several G. E. appliances over the years, including an electric range that was top rated by Consumer Reports, and they have always ran reliably and gave us value for our money. We are very pleased with our new G.E. chest freezer.

Great little chest, but needs wheels.

My wife and I were given a old standup freeze that the casket finally harden up. After looking at how much stuff we freeze, we realized that a chest would be better and having wheels would be best. The chest meets the cu/ft we need, the lock, and the dimensions to fit in the garage comfortably. Not having wheels is not a deal breaker, but being able to move it around easily would of been nice.

Excellent for the money

Only had this for two weeks. Very quiet, medium setting freezes food very solid. Efficient design and nice extras like light and sliding baskets for top storage. Having a shelf to one side is nice. Only concern I have is that the lid feels cold to the touch and makes me question whether there is sufficient insulation. No moisture forms though. Otherwise would give 5 stars.

Great freezer

Bought this freezer to replace old 5 cubic foot one. Impressed with quiet efficiency. Not even 24 hours to be ready for stuff. I would have liked the bins to be bigger
