I was unable to print Black but my cartridges were very old. I decided to try a new set of inks. Unfortunately the black still does not work. I assume I could get the printer repaired. But it might be more straightforward to buy a new one. Can you recommend a model for home use - light duty - but good quality
We have tried using the new black ink cartridge several times. It always comes out spotty, with parts of words missing. When we print in color, the type is clearer, but still spotty. I ended up printing out the tax form and filling it in by hand so I was sure the IRS would be able to read it.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Hi,
I'm sorry that you didn't have a good experience with the cartridge you received. However, it might not be the cartridge itself at fault.
It is likely that the printhead is clogged and not letting the ink through all of the tiny inkjets. There is a cleaning routine available from the printer's menu that you can use to clear them out. The routine might need to be run more than once, if the printhead is badly clogged.
If it appears that it is the cartridge and it has poor performance is due to a defect or damage, the return and exchange process is covered, step-by-step, at: store.hp.com/us/en/cv/returnsandexchanges
