Top Performer!

I've been an avid videographer for a few years and I've been shooting cam. My nephew suggested I get into DSLR. So I figured why not?! I used the 70D primarily for shooting film. And I am in love with this gear. My main glass is the Sigma 18-35mm and this is truly a match made in heaven! I've done some stills and have been equally impressed. There really is no need to get another piece of gear unless it has 4K capability!

Dual Pixal Game Changer

This camera is underrated. I can now have pin point focus while using my steadicam, jib, slider and shoulder rig without me or an extra person pulling focus!! Brings up my production value. Although there are some features that were left out, I was shocked buy the price.
Pros: dual pixal, touch screen, digic 5+, good in low light
Cons: no headphone jack, touch screen not active while hdmi out to monitor, 1 sd slot

CMOS sencor dead in less than two years

Bought the 70d in Nov 2013. The CMOS sensor died in Oct 2015 after regular use for a hobby camera. Sent it to the factory service center and received a high estimate for repair. Had to discard the camera. Lost confidence in the quality of this product.

Sorry I bought it . . glad I still have my 50D

This dual pixel focus doesn't work well. VERY soft image quality and I'm not the only one to see it. Also have a problem with the external flash . . . Don't know why but there are times when using my 430 EX flash the resulting photo appears overexposed to the point it's almost totally white. EXIF info shows exposure to be consistent with what should have produced a great photo. This doesn't happen all of the time. Between the terrible focusing (it happens with three different Canon lenses, one of the L) and this flash issue I don't have any confidence or trust in this camera. I'm going back to my 50D. BTW . . I know their engineers are great and got the firmware EXACTLY right the first time . . thus there's no need for an update since shipping.

First APS-C DSLR

This is my first DSLR. I had to choose between features and CMOS type, and I felt this had the most features for my price range, although I would have liked a full frame model.
The best features of this camera include the high framerate shooting, excellent touch screen and plenty of settings options for the price. It supports the latest and greatest memory cards, wifi (it's not the best implementation though), super neat video autofocus and overall good construction.
The worst features are with autofocus in low light situations. With short focal length lenses, it tends to 'wander' and overshoot. It is hard to see in the viewfinders if the photo is in focus and sometimes the focus confirmation doesn't seem to detect a focus anyway. I find a lot more of my photos quite out of focus unless I run it manual mode first to 'help it'. I have tried various focus modes and they all seem to suffer from some sort of focus wandering or overshooting (at close range) or even under-focusing at long range. When shooting rapidly (over 8000 photos in an hour), the camera tends to freeze up and slow down until you put in a fresh memory card. This problem is independent of the brand or type of card.
This is a great first camera for someone who wants a taste of all the latest and greatest DSLR technology. It does video and photos quite well, in my amateur opinion, and does it for a good cost. I tend to do a lot of low light / high motion photography and have quickly run to the limits of this camera for those conditions.
Pros: quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, great first dslr
Cons: poor af

you get a lot for what you paid for

I recently upgraded from a rebel t3i to the canon 70d because I desired a faster shutter speed and better video performance. I shoot sports for a D1 college and needed an inexpensive body to go with my L series lens. Although the 7d is still probably the better buy if you're focusing on sports, the 70d is an all around good package that will do everything you need it to. The autofocus lags a little bit with some of the more complex lenses, but it makes up for it in quality. I've really been impressed with the new video technology, as this camera will have anyone fooled that you used something higher on the market. A good buy for the price.

Great Camera

I am an amateur photographer and will admit this is the nicest camera I have operated, but I have been very pleased with the performance. I just traveled to Japan and took some very nice photos with the 18-135mm IS STM lens, but I will say that focusing was lagging at times and I couldn't get a subject in focus without adjusting the manual focus then switching back to auto. The camera has some great features and offers some versatile features for the price. I was most amazed with the Wi-Fi because I was able to download the EOS app on my iPhone and not only could I see real-time what the camera was seeing from my phone, but I could remotely take and download photos directly to my phone. My biggest gripe is that when switching between manual mode and CA (creative auto) the flash is default 'on' which is really annoying as I almost never use the built-in flash. I understand this is probably true with multiple Canon models, but it gets very annoying, especially if I am wearing a hat the flash will attempt to pop-up and sometimes will get an error because it hits my hat and cannot function properly.
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Bright LCD, Solid Operation
Cons: Heavy/Bulky, flash is default on in ca mode
