Focus problems when using view finder.

I love the features of this camera but there is an issue when focusing using the view finder and the center focus point.
It's summed up nicely in this youtube review:

If they could get this fixed this camera would be awesome... but for someone wanting to shoot BIF I would stick with the 7D.

Bad Motherboard
on June 28, 2017

I spent $1500 on this camera about 3 years ago. Last time I used it was about 4 months ago. I had kept it stored in my camera bag in a safe dry area all this time. Nothing touched it since the last time I used it. It wasn’t exposed to dust or humidity. Today it won’t turn on. Everything online says it’s probably the motherboard which will probably cost $400+. I’m extremely disappointed that I spent so much money on what I though would be a lifelong reliable camera. The only reason I gave 2 stars is because I really did enjoy the photos it captured when it actually worked.

software needs to catch up to the camera

I like it . I shoot a lot of high school sports and wildlife. I am 78 and 2/3 years and own a 1D mark 3 and many white lenses. I was disappointed in the images I shot at S raw of a night football game . I usually do not shoot raw in football. but It was almost impossible to get an image to look normal after using this. I am now going to once again shooting large for my night football games to see how things might change. All in all a very nice improvement and I love the touch screen for checking out my shots at half time. A Canon user for 43 years. At-1 to now
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, touch screen !!!!
Cons: software

Amazing Upgrade
on October 5, 2013

I just upgraded from a T3i, which I loved. As a mostly solo hunter who films hunts for web and TV, I wanted a DSLR that would compliment my larger AVCHD camera. Now that I picked up the 70D, I wish I liked my larger camera as much! This camera is a must for the hunter who films. It's weatherproof, has a plethora of lens options, and the new STM lens along with autofocus in video mode is nothing short of amazing. I fell in love with this camera as soon as I tried it and left the store with the last one!
Pros: quiet, excellent image quality, easy to use

Best Midrange DSLR on the market period.
on April 29, 2014

I have used many DSLRs. I was always hesitant to purchase one because of price and i didn't think it would change the way i took pictures. I actually purchased a T5i because of an amazing Christmas deal. But when i read a review of the 70D online, and understood the differences, i immediately knew i needed to step up to a mid-range body.
The 70D is an amazing camera. Some of the stand out features are the vari-angle touchscreen lcd, wifi, 19 autofocus points, live view auto focus (Dual Pixel CMOS AF) and the the burst rate is high and consistent.
I also love the fact that you get add'l buttons such as dof preview, af, drive, iso, meter mode, af on, ae lock and af point selection. These buttons are customized via the custom controls and i have mine set up for back button focusing.
If you have already mastered your Txi Rebel or other entry level DSLR and want to step up without going to a full frame, the 70D is the best choice.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, vari-angle touch screen lcd, live view auto focus, 19 autofocus points, dedicated buttons, 7 fps continuous shooting, wifi, full hd 1080 video
Cons: only one preset c mode, no automatic brightness control for lcd, only one card slot, top lcd doesn't show selected image size
I would recommend this to a friend!

Image Quality Issues
on September 19, 2014
Posted by: Bphotosmart
from Chicago, IL
Pros: Improved Still image Focusing, Fast shutter speed, Outstanding live view focus, Touch screen and compatibility with STM lenses.
Cons: Missing joystick, wheel design stinks!, Red colors seem to overwhelm sensor creating blurry photos
This camera was a log overdue replacement for my 20d. Overall I found the camera to be very good with improved focusing and speed compared to the 20d. I did find a problem with the way it handled bright red colors. Otherwise the image quality is very good.
