Great Camera....it does it all.

This is the SECOND one of these I have owned (gave the first to my local school), and this model is even better than the original. Battery life is exceptional, the OS is improved, and image quality stands up to the best. Compared to the Olympus and Pentax rugged cameras (both of which I have had), the Sony is best, hands down.
Great candids, HD video, good macro feature, background defocus and amazing landscapes..and the fact that it is a true all-weather camera is huge. Having dropped and and damaged cameras in the past, I appreciate that it is so durable, and can withstand my butterfingers.
This is my go-to camera, ready in an instant, and is infinitely easier to have available, compared to my DSLR and obviously much better than a phone cam.
I have recommend this camera to friends many times over.
Thanks, Sony!
I would recommend this to a friend!

Loved it so much I bought it twice!

When I purchased this camera, I was looking for something small and light that I could carry around with me on vacations and other kinds of trips. I knew that the camera had an underwater feature, but didn't really intend on using it very much, because I was skeptical. My family takes most of our vacations in the Caribbean and spend lots of time in the water and at the lake. So i decided to very cautiously take my little camera for a spin in the water. I was so over joyed with the outcome I can not believe I ever doubted it for a minute. The pictures are flawless and completely amazing! The more I used this camera the more I fell in love with it.
If you plan on using this in the water a lot though I would be careful and do a check of all openings and crevices before entering the water. Sadly my first device became compromised and got water in it after 3 years, but I was so pleased with the camera I have purchased it again!

Unfortunately Unlucky....

I would say best waterproof camera out there. Great in high light and fast capture is good.
Pros:
-Beautiful design
-Good quality
-Video recording is amazing
-Has simi 3D capability
-HDMI out
-Can add music and view slide shows
-Great display
-Touch screen
-Magnifying glass shot is great
-Power on and capture time is fast
Cons:
-Touch UI seemed slow and laggy
-Low light pictures didn't turn out too well
-Zoom isn't as good as they show (of course but i was optimistic and believing)
-Filters and scenes I thought were useless
-Slider got ruined easily
-Panoramic didn't work well
-No Wifi
-Having to open the battery door just to charge seemed dangerous to the rubber gasket
-Battery life wasn't good
-Battery indicator goes from 3 to 2 then back to 4 and then 3 etc... wasn't very accurate
Sad ending: Unfortunately was using it in the lake even with the floating strap bought from Sony and it got away from me and never saw it float =( lost and never found =,( If prices drop low enough might buy it again. It hurts to have lost such a great device. Wished to get more time from it...

DO NOT BUY! Camera does not hold-up
on June 27, 2014

I too bought this camera expecting the quality of Sony that I have become accustomed to through other products such as their TVs, Surround Sound Systems, Receivers, and Portable Stereo Devices.
The Sony Cyber-Shot Digital Camera TX30 seemed to be the perfect camera for me and my life style. It is advertised as “certified waterproof, dustproof, shockproof, and freezeproof”. It is NOT!
Although the camera took wonderful pictures and video it is/was not waterproof, dustproof, shockproof, or anything proof. I used the camera exactly how it was advertised and when the camera became corroded after the third snorkeling trip; I sent it into the Sony customer service for its warranty coverage and received the below evaluation not once but twice. First, from the in-store customer service representative who warned me that it may have “suffered physical damage”, prior to any examination of the camera; and secondly, in an e-mail from the Sony Service Center, apparently after the examination.
“We have completed the evaluation necessary to repair your unit. During this evaluation, it has been determined that your unit has suffered physical damage. As a result of this damage, the repair costs make it uneconomical and inefficient to repair the unit.”
I have been a loyal customer for many years and have spent thousands of dollars on Sony products with great enjoyment; however now that I have had a piece of equipment stop working I have seen a different side of Sony. I am very disappointed with Sony and this will absolutely make me think twice before purchasing another Sony product.

Disappointed Bad Touch Screen & Poor Circuitry
on December 26, 2013
Posted by: RichmondHill
Owned the camera for nearly 30 months with numerous problems, but it did have some fantastic features and cannot recommend buying.
Positives:
- Beautiful look
- Good photos for Waterproof PS Cameras
- Excellent Video & Sound Quality
- Lots of features
- Quick startup
- Very light and easy to hold
- Solid build.
Negatives
- Numerous circuitry problems to flash (common with Sony PS)
- Locks are not double sealed (easily corrected with tape)
- Slide cover jams with sand
- Strong flash (when working) washes out image
- Touch screen is useless underwater due to the cold water
- Confusing menu selections including locating the video
- Glass can easily break and scratch
- Poor battery approx. 1 hour video or 100 pics (slightly below average)
- Small buttons.
- Priced higher than other Waterproof PS.
Potentially this could be the best waterproof camera on the market.
If the can use buttons instead of touch screen, improve the circuitry (fixed 3X and now dead again after warranty expired) and improve the menu selection to be user friendly they would be ranked higher.
Don't be fooled by the beautiful look, the camera is frustratingly problematic. Good camera overall, but too many problems that keep this from being great. Do your online research and similar conclusions will support not to buy.

Worst Camera EVER do NOT BUY!!!
on May 28, 2014
Posted by: jdubyargh
I bought this camera thinking that it would be a great Sony product, like my TV, PS systems, and previous Sony cyber shot cameras I have purchased in the past.....think again!!!! First I want to say the camera says it is safe to take in limited depths of water, but do not expose this camera to water, according to Sony warranty, water proof is not water proof, even though water proof should be water proof , it is not water proof. It was the biggest piece of false advertising I have ever run into in my life. My warranty repair was refused because of corrosion, but how does a water proof camera have corrosion unless the seal keeping the camera from being waterproof fails! Oh, and then try to call customer service, who can do nothing for you, or the warranty department who can also do nothing for you. Sony if you wonder why you're losing market share, start with your terrible customer service or your total lack or product support. I have been a lifelong Sony customer, from stereo systems, to MD players/recorders, computers and games systems, and something like this really is such a huge disappointment from a brand I trusted and thought I knew as a consumer. I can say this: after careful consideration I will never purchase another Sony camera again.

Disappointed
on December 16, 2013

I had an older version of this camera (tx10) that I loved and used well until it leaked after 19 months. I hadn't bought the extended warranty on that one, so I replaced it with the tx30 and bought the warranty. Unfortunately it leaked after only 2 months of light use. I'm now in the process of having sony repair/replace it but I really would just like my money back.
This camera is not all the tx10 was. The flash on this one washes everyone out. Even people with darker complexions look ghostly white with the flash. I loved the 10shots/sec feature in the tx10. You got 10 clear crisp pictures. Unfortunately with the tx30 you just end up with 10 blurry pictures so it's useless. In any mode saving pictures takes several seconds so don't think you can capture two moments close together. I tried three cards (2 were new scandisk cards so this was the fault of the camera, not the memory.)
All in all just very disappointed and then it seals the deal by leaking in 1 foot of water after only having it for 2 months. Very disappointed.
