Love/Hate relationship
on July 7, 2014
Posted by: Laurauren
I love this camera but there are some flaws. It take some of the best pictures, amazing video, and is easy to use. However, the frame surrounding the glass cracks in the corners very easily. I was told the price to repair would be equivalent to getting a new one. Thus, now it is no longer a waterproof camera which was a HUGE selling feature for me. I used to love to take it to water polo games, snorkeling, etc. Often I'll need to repack the battery, because it won't always recognized that it is there. My dad's new model has this issue too.

Major disappointment in DSC TX30
on March 30, 2014
Posted by: SonycameraGuy
First of all, I am very very careful with my cameras and did not abuse it at all , especially since it was brand new. I bought it the week before going on vacation. This camera turned out to be a major disappointment as the camera lasted less then a week while on vacation. Here are the issues for anyone thinking of buying this camera. The camera got water inside and stopped working, dead. I did not open the battery compartment anywhere near water, but the weak seal let water in and destroyed it. The slide down front cover filled with sand while swimming even though I did not open it while getting out of the ocean. The swirling sand filled the front cover and was very difficult to get out. The top of the camera also filled with sand (the area just above the monitor) and I had to use a tooth pick to pry the sand out (when on vacation, you use any tool you can come up with). The controls do not work while in the water and the monitor is impossible to see when in direct sun light. So basically you have to have the camera set to exactly the type of shooting you will do before going in. No changing to panorama or underwater mode or back to auto mode as the camera will not respond when it is wet. And, you cannot see the monitor unless you get out of the water and find a very shady spot. The picture quality is also not very good, even though it has a Zeiss lens on it. If you do not plan on zooming in, the quality is still poor as most of the pictures in direct sunlight come out hazy. I love Sony and have always purchased their products, but this camera is a major disappointment and you should not waste your money on it.

Camera fell from a table to a carpeted floor and the screen broke. Not shockproof by any means.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Not shockproof by any means
on April 3, 2015

Camera fell from a low table onto a carpeted floor and the viewing glass shattered. Called Sony and they said that it cannot be repaired under the warranty even though the camera is sold as "certified shockproof". Quite disappointed with the customer service as well as with the camera itself since the camera is quite new and advertised as shockproof :(
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Hi sony12345,

We're saddened to hear about what happened with your camera. The warranty doesn't cover physical and cosmetic damages.

Liked the prior version better

I like that it is impact and water resistant. It has 3 different shades of blue which didn't show or specified online prior to purchase and its heavier than the prior version of it. I had first version and use to carry it as a wristlet because it was so light, this one is much heavier and has exactly the same features.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I May Never Buy Sony Again & Will Never Buy a Sony
on August 20, 2014
Posted by: BethFrank
My home has mostly Sony products & I've been buying Sony cyber-shots for as long as I can remember. (Est 1998)
In the past year I have had to purchased 2-tx30's.
On one, 2-months after purchase, the screen started going on the fritz and then just went bright green. Returned to Sony & they refused to fix under warranty. Saying that I caused damage. It was never mishandled. (side note: Sony has never repaired an item I've sent under warranty-always finding a reason not to fix.)
I had THE SAME experiences as MTIN in Indianapolis, Lauraren in LA AND Spetz in San Diego described in their reviews.
This camera takes GREAT photos, but ONLY lasts if you really don't use it. It must be handled carefully. In no-way, whatsoever, is this Shockproof. My frame has cracked, the glass at the edges have cracked. And it's never been dropped.
I bought a cheap alternate Sony camera to keep with me, and ONLY take out my TX30 on special trips - about 10 since purchase in October 2013. I think it only has a few more uses. I already see signs of it fritzing out.
I pleaded with Sony for help with the repair/replacement: they sent me a $25 coupon towards a replacement - But, it the code specified it wasn't valid on the TX30. So, basically I got nothing...
2-TX 30's down the drain in one year.

IS IT SONY QUALITY??? WOW!

The model we bought is DSC-TX20 and we got EXACTLY the same problem that Laurauren from Los Angles, CA has (see her review on July 7, 2014)
This was our SECOND time using the camera since we bought it and guess what? When we got back from our vacation, we notice the frame surrounding the glass / screen area cracks in both locations: one was at the top right corner and one was at the bottom corner! The camera was never dropped or had any kind of physical abuse! They just broke by themselves. We were just speechless! We paid for Sony brand name and we got this cheapy, low quality camera that just broke on its own, and this was only our second time of using it!
What's more? We sent it to Sony dealer for repair (Work order #: 301 791 658; Repair ID: E603 020 86#, they required us to pay repair fee #!) and the amount that they want us to pay was only $10 bucks away from buying a brand new product, newer model which is this one DSC-TX30)!!!
Turned out, my camera was not the only one that the frame got broke by itself! Laurauren from Los Angles, CA got the same thing! See her review!
Really? A Sony camera???
Let me sum it up:
PRICE: very expensive
QUALITY: extremely cheap
SERVICE: so poor!
NEXT PURCHASE: anything BUT SONY!
That's what we got for buying a Sony product!!!
Thank you very much!!!

Haven't found it useful

This camera takes good pictures and has the typical Sony features which I like. However, I wanted to use the camera when I went snorkeling. It did function under water and take pictures, but I could NOT see the screen at all when there was any sunlight! It was completely dark. So, since I have another very good Sony camera (Nex7), I can't figure out a use for this one.

Hi cmgovier,

We recommend adjusting the Panel brightness when using the camera outdoors especially in bright sunlight. To learn more about its features, kindly visit esupport.sony.com/US/p/model-home.pl?mdl=DSCTX30&template_id=1&region_id=1&tab=manuals#/manualsTab.
