What happened to 8 gig embedded flash memory?!?
on July 5, 2014
Posted by: RobinT
I was so excited to receive this camera, having enjoyed other Sony cameras in the past. It was advertised as having 8 gigabytes of embedded flash memory, so I would not need a microSD card. (I don't use video; I take photos to accompany my newspaper and magazine articles.) And I don't have a microSD card (didn't really know about microSD cards, since I don't have a fancy cellphone and I have a regular laptop, which of course has a regular SD slot. I didn't know this camera required microSD since my other Sony cameras use regular SD cards. Anyway, I take the camera out of the box and I discover that it did NOT have 8 gigabytes of flash memory, but instead, ONLY 48 megabytes. That is a tiny fraction of what's advertised, so little storage that it would hold just about 25 photos using the 2 mb setting, and only a handful at 5 mb (and this is an 18 mb camera). I am very disappointed.

Always works and had better range than the phone. I never have to worry about the safety of the camera, and that is what I want.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Nice idea but terrible camera in practice
on May 12, 2014

I wish I liked it, but I hate this camera. I’ve had it for 1 or 2 years now, and I barely take pictures anymore simply because the camera is difficult to use that it’s actually prohibitive. The touch screen sounds cool, but realistically it’s the most annoying thing on a camera. One must hold the camera soooo carefully so as not to touch the touch screen while taking a picture. If you do, well, your picture won’t take. If you put down or pick up the camera, and accidentally touch the screen, you’ve adjusted settings you didn’t even know existed.
Also, the battery can only be charged by plugging the whole camera in, which for me, is another prohibitive factor in taking pictures. I previously had a camera with 3 rechargeable batteries, so I could take pictures freely, and if the battery died, I could replace it. Now if the battery dies, it’s all over. So I try not ‘waste’ pictures so it won’t run out at a critical moment. The result, again, is that I’ve stopped taking pictures, and I’m rather sad about that.
When I do take pictures, they are nice, and I like that it’s waterproof. But that doesn’t outweigh some major drawbacks.

No Memory Card included
on August 28, 2013

I think I might like this camera, but I was surprised to pay $300 and have no memory card/stick/whatever included in the box. Not only is it not in the box, there is none shown on the accessories page. I took about 20 pictures before the memory was full...Guess I should have read the fine print a little more closely. Where does one buy a memory card/stick? Irksome indeed. FYI: The AC adaptor included in the box lets you plug your camera into the wall - to charge the battery. I think the USB cable lets you charge the battery by plugging into your computer (not 100% sure on this one). Rechargeable battery is included, but no separate battery charger. Basically, useless for me until I go shopping...again.

Crackling Sound When Using Video
on October 21, 2014
Posted by: Anonymous
When recording video the camera makes a loud crackling sound (my wife calls it a cockroach sound) that can also be heard in the finished movie. This sound can clearly be heard during recording and playback on the camera and when watching the movie on a computer.
So we drove 2 hours to the Palo Alto, California store to exchange the camera thinking it was a defect but the second camera did the exact same thing!
The photos are extremely clear and the camera design is awesome, but do not buy this one if you plan on using it to record video.
We returned the second camera and Will, the Palo Alto store clerk, was extremely helpful and polite. It's too bad the video problem exists on this camera because all the other features are outstanding.

Loved my now broken camera
on December 23, 2014
Posted by: BrokenCamera
I loved this camera, however, in April 2014 (not even 4 months after I received this for my birthday) the blue clip that holds the battery in broke, no problem got it fixed the beginning of May.
Well fast forward 7.5 months to the beginning of December and the stupid blue clip broke AGAIN, thankfully on the last day of my trip to Mexico and not while I was depending on my waterproof camera for when I was snorkelling.
And now the warrenty is up (go figure), I refuse to pay to have an obviously defective part fixed, so it looks like this year old camera I really liked is going to recycling and I am off to buy a more reliable waterproof camera.

My husband had an old one and the electronics started messing up. It sometimes wouldn't take a picture. So I bought him this one. He loves it because it's small, lightweight and waterproof. Easy to use and great color!
I would recommend this to a friend!
