I started out with the 18-55mm lens. I had been using it for 1 year and realized it wasn't as versatile. Not doing much research, I purchased the 70-300mm. I think I should have made a wiser decision with the 70-300 but I didn't. I finally purchased the 18-200 after 2 years and what a fool I was. This lens should be sold with every camera. Its good for both short and long range, easy to transport, and can capture any moment you can imagine. A little heavy but manageable. If your getting a camera that comes with the 18-55, see if you can purchase just the body and purchase this lens. Trust me!
What's great about it: Good for close and long range
What's not so great: I didn't get it sooner
I would recommend this to a friend!

Although I have not had the opportunity to put this lens through a rigorous test, I am very please with its performance to date. Great for the novice and amature photographer.
What's great about it: Great range of uses
What's not so great: Fairly expensive for the beginner photographer
I would recommend this to a friend!

I bought this Lens for my Canon T3i and so far I just love it, I have captured some great images ( when I do my job right) and love the fact that it shoots very good wide angle out to the full 200mm. I have the 18-55mm that came with the Camera and a 70-300mm that I bought later. I should have bought the Camera body only then put this lens on it. The F3.5 makes it a bit faster so for the price it is well worth it when you see the price jump to get an F2.8 or better.
What's great about it: Allows a super wide range of shooting without changing Lenses
What's not so great: It would be nice if the zoom lock was a little bigger so it would be easier and faster to manipulate.
I would recommend this to a friend!

The best thing about this lens is the versatility. You can cover a lot of photography with this lens from landscapes to portraits. Very good as a travel lens option.
What's great about it: good build quality, good image quality, fairly fast focus, IS
What's not so great: zoom creep, a little heavy
I would recommend this to a friend!

Good carry around lens

I bought this lens to replace carrying my kit and zoom lens when not needed while travalling. It takes the place of my 18-55mm kit lens and 75-300mm zoom lens. It covers those same range distances but is not as good in low light, nor are the pics as sharp at the furthest zoom range. But within it's limitations it takes great pics and I am satisfied with it. At 1st it felt heavy, but as I got use to using it, I stopped noticing it. I bought a holster case with shoulder strap that my camera will fit in with this lens attached. It's so nice to not have to lug around my big bag and my other lens. No need to change lens for closeups and farther zoom shots. The lens seems to be good quality and is a joy to use. I wish I could have got this lens in my bundle when I got my Canon T3i, but it was not included. I'd read that Sigma makes a much cheaper version but I decided to stick with Canon after I tried the Sigma lens and didn't like it. Maybe the Sigma lens I tried was defective, I dunno. But from some reviews I've read, this Canon lens out performed the Sigma. I'm happy with this lens.

This lens permits flexibility, ease of operation, and provides exceptional clarity and preciseness. I used this one lens to shoot over 750 shots at a wedding and reception. No more of fumbling around for other lens. It is compact and unobtrusive. It is very fast to focus and as all CANON lens are, the quality comes out in every photograph. This is the ONE lens I would recommend everyone purchase PRIOR to purchasing all the other zoom lens. This focal length permits candid photography opportunities from a distance as well as posed photos close up. FOR the money, it is the best money I have ever spent on lens, and I have several. I suggest take your CANON Camera to the store, put this lens on your camera, and shoot some photos. THIS lens sells itself!!!!

This lens is like having two lenses without needing to swap. It's a little heavy compared to an 18-50 lens, but less than two lenses. The image quality is not that of a $1000 lens, but it is still a great lens.
