OK, I'm going to be very critical here

I purchased my QC20i headphones/ear buds in March for travel, usually long international travel. I promptly took a trip. Then a few weeks later I travelled domestically. The headphones were used a lot for the air travel and typically at the pool or beach.
I found getting the earpieces properly fitted to my ear relatively easy and an important step. If they fit properly, they work properly. The noise canceling was incredible. You can block out that jet engine roar and other noise very well. I really like the control to switch it off so you can hear flight attendants when they come by. Once the earpieces are in my ear I forget about them. They are that comfortable and you just get used to being into your own world. The sound quality is superior. They are very rugged and I particularly like the fact they don't retain the wire curl when rolled up and stored. When stood in the case you have a small package which makes it easy to carry. I use the headphones on my iPods, iPad and iPhone, sometimes with the airline entertainment systems.
Here's where my issues come in. The module at the end of the cord,,,, poorly designed. The distance from the plug to the module body is 2 inches. That means that module will be maximum of 2" away from whatever it is plugged into. This is troublesome particularly when plugging into the audio port on the inside of the arm rest. It's a good thing these headphones are rugged! When plugged into an iPod or iPhone you now have this module hanging awkwardly from the audio plug. To deal with that I use a velcro strap and wrap the 2 units together. That solution can lead to the strap inadvertently changing the controls on the phone or iPod. On an iPad it's hopeless, just get used to it dangling. Another issue is the size of the carry case. It is so small that the cords have to do a sharp bend at the module and we all know this will result in broken cords and intermittent connections over time. It's just too small.
I absolutely love my QC20i headphones and they are a pleasure to wear and use. Excellently engineered except for the short lead to the module.

These headphones are big disappointment to me. The sound quality is good, but the inline control volume doesn't work. I can't adjust the sound.

I purchased a pair of Quiet Comfort Earphones a couple of years ago to wear during air travel. I had been using the Sound True earphones and really liked them, but they didn't eliminate all the noise. I saw other passengers with Bose over the ear phones, but wasn’t interested in wearing big headphones. When I saw the Quiet Comfort earphones on the website I decided to give them a try. When they arrived, I subjected them to what I consider the ultimate test - I ride Harley Davidson motorcycles and was curious to see how much of the sound from a V Twin they would cancel. My bike has custom pipes on it and by most standards is really loud. I went to the garage, put in the Earphones, and started the engine. Without noise cancelling turned on they sounded very good, but most of the engine noise still carried through. Then, I turned them on and to my complete amazement the engine noise all but disappeared. I literally could not believe my ears, there I was sitting on my Hog and could barely hear the engine rumbling right under me. Since then, I have great fun letting my biker friends try them out. I ask them to put on the Earphones and listen to some music for a few seconds (I keep my IPod and control unit in my hand) and ask how it sounds, they usually nod approval, but I can tell they are not that impressed – noise cancelling, right – then I flip the switch and watch their faces, the jaw dropping looks I get are most entertaining. Needless to say it is great fun, I get the same results on Jets too. Spendy, yes, but worth it!

Comfort, NC, Sound Quality: 5x5

Bought these from an airline in-flight catalog to replace defunct NC in-ear phones by another manufacturer. Everything about these QC20s is better: better ear fit, better passive isolation, better noise cancellation, better audio quality. And they're comfortable for long duration flights.

Excellent Noise Cancellation!

I must first start my review by stating that I'm part of the Bose Test & Review program and received the headphones at no charge for testing purposes. I appreciate the opportunity to test the products.
The headphones are beautifully boxed and come with all needed documentation, plus 3 different sizes of ear inserts to assure proper fit. After spending a few minutes getting accustomed to the headphones, I connected them to my iPhone 6 S Plus and began my testing.I was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable the earphones feel in the ear... a lot of improvement from the earlier version Bose headphones. The headphones have a pleasant balanced sound with plenty of low end, so they worked well with most types of music. Now for the most important area: the noise cancellation. I was shocked at the ability of the circuitry to cancel not only "white noise", but to cancel distinctive sounds, such as speech and horns. I was almost eerie to not hear anything except my own breathing when there was no music playing... that must be what the Astronauts experience in the vacuum of space. :-) DO NOT use these if you are driving! That would create a dangerous situation. I used the headphones in a variety of situations: night clubs, noisy computer server rooms, traveling, etc. The noise cancellation feature works flawlessly. For anyone who travels frequently or works in a noisy environment, these are a must-have item! I had no problems with the other features, such as the remote buttons and the bypass switch on the Noise cancellation module. All functioned as described. A really nice feature is the ability to listen to music without turning the noise cancelling module on. The battery life is great and lasts 12 hours, but why waste it if it's not needed? A very nice feature, indeed! Honestly, the only minor issue I found was that the carrying case is a tad too small. It works, but could be a little bigger.
With all of that being said, here's the bottom line: are these headphones worth $299.00? If you are regularly in noisy environments, then you definitely should consider these headphones! It's a lot cheaper than hearing-aids, which is what you'll wind up with from constant exposure to loud noise. I would have given anything to have these for my father when he worked in a factory. He would have not lost most of his hearing over the years. If your just looking for good headphones to simply listen to music, then check out the non noise cancellation models.
Good job, Bose! You definitely put a LOT of research and development into this product and it shows.

This headset is unbelievable. The sound quality is full, has depth, clear unbelievable . The noise canceling is the best in the industry. Being a audio maniac I could not believe what i heard. Flying a lot this is a indispensable accessory. I have the product now for more than a year. If lost or stolen I would immediately buy a new one. Waiting for the wireless one.
