Great product at the right price

I found that my original Cannon S110 was over seven years old, and in need of an upgrade. I did extensive research for price, features and performance to aid in my selecting. I use this camera to take photos inside and outside of homes I design. All in all, I am impressed with the ease of use. Although I have downloaded and reviewed the full manual, which one should do to understand the complete features and functions, I find myself on AUTO with a great picture. Close up macro works for details 12" away and the zoom does not degrade the photo. All in all, in a slim package, this camera is a great option, especially when you find it on sale.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
I would recommend this to a friend!

Very Poor Auto Exposure with Flash
on January 27, 2010

There is a problem with these cameras, I have checked three of them family members own and also two of the A1100's. When set in Auto mode with the flash on Auto the camera's take pictures at way too slow shutter speeds, down to 1/15 if a second and at way to high ISO speeds between 400-800. This results if pictures that are overexposed, grainy and blurry. On all the cameras I checked if you move it into the Program mode instead of Auto then it takes great pictures at 1/60 of a second and at ISO200-250 like it should. This is definatly a problem they need to address. If you have one of these cameras check it out and let them know if it has the same problem. I the program mode it works great and outdoors in the Auto mode it works great, but it should work indoors with flash in the Auto mode also like all my previous Cannon's have.
Cons: Poor image quality
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great Camera!

After extensively looking for a new camera, I finally decided on this one, and it was a great choice. The image quality is wonderful, and it's great at shooting pictures in low light and close up. I also love all the colors it comes in! It also has a user friendly interface design, as I was able to figure out most of the ins and outs without really reading the manual at all. The one thing this camera doesn't have that my other one did is a panoramic feature. You'll just have to shoot multiple pictures, and then download a program that is on the cd that comes with the camera, which will put the images together for you. Otherwise, this is a great camera, I've taken it to everything I go to! Highly recommended.
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, great colors!
Cons: no panoramic feature, not as many shooting features as other cameras

While returning from an elephant walk (in the rain) in Northern Thialand, thisSD1200 IS slipped out of my pocket while in a plastic bag into the mud. When retrieved the camera fullly functioned and I finished my vacation 4 weeks later with terrific images. Thank you Canon
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable

Needed small camera
on December 11, 2009

While traveling I would normally use my 20D Canon and several lenses---and get great results. However I ( a 70 year old) am planning a hiking trip in Spring around Greece--the good gear is too heavy. I'll be using public transport lugging baggage and all. This little thing seems to fit my needs without going overboard. Photos so far are good--different from my 20d results though. I miss manual controls--focus and exposure. I'll live with it. Camera size is a bit small and that is not good--difficult to control and handle this little thing---but that, on the other hand, is what I need. A small light camera to reduce weight. I'm learning it--It'll do I'm sure. Overall : good plus.
Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable
Cons: Missing features/settings, Difficult to use, Short battery life

Nice Camera

I've used this camera for 4 weeks now and I love it!! With the right settings, sometimes it takes as good of pictures as our Canon Powershot SX100. I'm still only very much of an amateur..but I think it takes great pictures. The quality is great. The things I like most are the awesome blue color and the size! It's so convenietly-sized! I love it! Overall, I am very pleased with it, for what I use it for.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

Re Blurry Jan 4 2010 post
on January 9, 2010

The instructions state if you push the shutter all the way down, instead of "half down, then all the way down" you will get blurry pictures. Hope this helps.
Pros: excellent image quality
Cons: Complicated controls/menu

Very happy with camera. Fairly new to digital photography, but this is easy to use, compact and produces great results. We also purchased the waterproof casing and had great results in a recent snorkeling trip with stills and video.
Pros: Lightweight/Portable, easy to use
