Amazing Camera!
on July 27, 2010

This is the most amazing camera I've ever had! It's never slow or sluggish, and all of the images are crystal clear! The colors of the pictures are bright and I can take some really cool pictures, and it focuses in on objects better than my old camera. It's tiny and can fit into my pocket easily. The only thing that's happened is that one time the screen went black even though it still took the pictures. It was new, so I was really worried that I messed it up, but it turns out that I accidentally turned the screen off. If anything like this happens to anyone, all you have to do is reset your settings to default. This is an amazing camera, and I really think anyone who buys it will love it. The bottom line is, it's easy to use and takes beautiful pictures. I've never been so happy with purchasing an electronic item.
Pros: pictures are really clear, easy to use, battery life is amazing
Cons: takes a while to load pictures on facebook
I would recommend this to a friend!

Wonderful Camera!!

I Have had my SD1200 for 2 years now and when it was stolen, I bought another one exactly the same. If you read the manual when you have problems (the blurry pics) you will see that it is easy enough to fix, just by raising the quality of the photos. I love it! If you shut off the auto focus assist beam and set the picture review on the lowest setting the battery lasts a LOT longer, too.
Pros: great camera

Less than expected

The main purpose I bought Canon over others was the viewfinder; I thought it would help me to work quickly. However, the "auto" features (focousing, exposeure) are so slow it defeats the speed offered by the viewfinder. The 3x zoom is slow and can be awkward to use; which isn't helped with refocousing so slow. The camera seems cheaply made and I had to return/exchage it because the lens protection shutter failed to fully close when the camera was turned off. The features and controls seem about average but are initally counter-intuitive to use, but can be mastered with practice and time spent reading the "full" user's guide (which has to be downloaded and printed from the internet). The included software that comes with the camera works well and is above average in ease of use and loading. It's only drawback seems to be that I can't find a way to designate an alternate destination folder. I really want to like this cute little camera. The video is fun and easy to use; but action photography is not always fast enough or easy.
Cons: Difficult to use, Complicated controls/menu, Flimsy Construction, slow auto focous
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Disappointed With Zoom

Zoom pictures of the mountains are out of focus -- even when I mount the camera on a tripod, focus at infinity, and use the built-in automatic timer. Everything else about the camera is fine.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Poor image quality
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Missing user guide.
on June 6, 2009

I like this camera but miss the swing out LCD screen that is on my Canon Powershot A620. I would like a detailed guide on how to access and use the various features in the camera,ie, movie, histogram, etc. At this point I stumble through the dials and intuit how best to use the features that are in the camera. Maybe a downloadable guide is forthcoming.
Pros: Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable
Cons: lacking a detailed user guide, lackin a swing out screen, dislike twostep erase button process of cncel /era

image quality a real letdown

I have previously owned an SD200 and SD450. After buying this camera today, I took the 200 and 1200 out and took a bunch of pictures to compare in a variety of settings.
Comparing on the computer did not give me what I had hoped. The 1200 is awful. Colors are washed out, contrast is poor, and much detail is lost compared to the 200. I played with a bunch of manual settings but couldn't get any improvement. The pictures actually look much better on the screen BEFORE you press the shutter. Afterwards they look like a pale imitation.
I am returning the 1200 and going to try to get all my money back. I will just have to stick with my 3.2 megapixel 200 for now. Who cares about 10MP if it takes junk photos??
The sad thing is, in every other way it's an awesome camera - well built, beautiful screen, menus, everything. It just can't take pictures. Only buy this camera if you don't care about image quality.
Cons: Poor image quality, washed out colors, poor contrast, lack of clarity in details
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Should have stuck with my old camera

My husband got me this camera for Christmas. I had been looking for a smaller digital camera I could take along in my purse. PROs: This camera is small, light and has a good size screen to view pictures. CONs: Poor picture quality. Out of 100 or so pictures, most of them end up being deleted as they are out of focus, too dark, etc. The lag time on actually taking a picture is quite long. This is a HUGE issue, especially if you plan on taking pictures of kids. I am thinking of going back to my bulkier camera. What is the use of carrying a smaller camera if none of the pictures turn out. I never had this issue with my old one.
Pros: Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable
Cons: Poor image quality, Poor Low-Light Performance, Short battery life
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
