Great 35mm replacement
on December 12, 2009

Reluctant to switch to digital until 35mm camera broke. Learning curve for an approaching-70 gal was huge; but after one hour tutorial from daughter, who also had camera, I was almost a pro! Took it immediately on a cruise and took more photos than I ever would've with the old camera. Even on a rolling ship, in a dimly light lounge, video was spot on! Very impressive to all who viewed posting on the internet! There are so many features I still haven't learned to use; but for this novice, this was a perfect point-and-shoot! I loved the fact that I could turn off the flash so easily so that I could shoot where flash was not permitted. And of course, it had to have a dater! All the way around, a great little camera!
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, great video
I would recommend this to a friend!

A lot in a little camera
on December 17, 2009

For its size and the price, it offers a lot. Couldn't find a camera that did everything I wanted for the price I was willing to spend, (ie. wide angle lens, large zoom) and this one comes closest to offering everything else I wanted in surprisingly such a little box and for a little price. Its smallness does have some obvious pros and few minor cons, being that it is a little difficult to keep a grip on and it's a hard to see the buttons (when you're old) but the pros outweigh, and even though the buttons are small, I would still say it's easy to use and simple. I think it does a pretty good picture in low light without a flash too. Very easy and compatible with a Mac. If I were going to ask for more, I'd have enough sense to know I need something bigger and more expensive.
Pros: durable, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Missing features/settings

Works extremely well, pictures have amazing quality, and it has an amazing battery life. The first time I used it was at an air show, so I was recording video almost constantly for about 4 hours and taking several hundred pictures, and the battery was still at 50% at the end.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable

Great Camera

The Canon PowerShot SD1200 IS is my first digital camera, and it is fantastic! Before I bought it, I was really worried about ending up with a camera that might be too difficult to use or understand. All you have to do is set it on "auto" and this Canon couldn't be easier.
I needed a camera capable of taking up to a thousand pictures per day in situations where recharging the battery would be impossible. To make the battery last longer, I simply turn off the LCD screen and use the viewfinder. It's hard to believe that so few digital cameras have this feature. I took almost 700 pictures in one day and still hadn't depleted the battery.
The picture quality is absolutely wonderful. Images are crisp and clear even under cloudy, damp conditions.
I would very highly recommend this Canon--especially to anyone looking for a simple-to-use digital camera that takes sensational pictures. However, if you're the type who likes to choose your own settings instead of letting the camera decide, I think you'd be very happy with the Canon SD1200 IS, too.
Great camera!!!

The Powershot 1200 is my wifes birthday present. She is very happy with it. I enjoy using it too. I also own a Canon EOS Rebel SLR. The compact powershot is just right for her purse whereas the EOS is a little much.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable, fast uploads to pc
Cons: must wear wrist strap. case is slippery.
