We practically tortured this camera. But after being dropped in a lake it still worked. As if that wasn't enough my sister dropped it in a horse pasture before three feet of snow and a horse got dumped on it. Except for a few scratches, it is still fine and works great. This camera is amazing.
Pros: durable

Small but not wonderful
on September 7, 2009

Pros:
* Small and built with precision full metal case construction.
* One of the low cost camera can capture 720p HD video
Cons
* Poor Low-Light Performance. High noise level. This is a common problem to all canon12MP SD product line.
* Small flat buttons. Very hard to control.
* Poor image quality- smaller lens contributed to most of the image distortion.
Canon's name stands for high image quality. This camera can not live up to this expectation. You can get an old 10MP PowerShot model for better quality.
Pros: Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable, full metal case construction, 720p hd video capture
Cons: Difficult to use, Poor image quality, Poor Low-Light Performance
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Dissapointed with image quality

I have had several Canon Powershots and this one appeared to be the ultimate one for me. Smallest, HD movie mode, etc.. But after having it for several months I can clearly say that the picture image quality is not as good as previous models. I notice that the images lack contrast and it can be seen on the histogram of the images. They are washed out and each image has to be manually tweeked in software to correct for it. I hope they can come up with a fix that can be plugged into the camera, or, if not, a batch program that can tweek the "Levels" for images as a group.
ALSO, the HD MOVIES are a great idea, but when you pan the camera the image deteriates a lot. Seems to lose it focus. Works great when you hold the camera in one spot.
My son also bought the same camera and has the same problems.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Poor image quality
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

OK for the price

After using this camera for over a month, I can say there
are good points and bad about this series. If you are
looking for a camera that takes pictures a bit better than
a cell phone at the same price as a cell phone than this is
it. However, unlike a cell phone this camera will not last in
cold weather shooting, like a cell phone can. I attempted to
use the featured HD video recording feature, but without
using an ac adapter, it's pretty much worthless. Battery
drains at a very fast rate, and with the thin body construction, trying to film at temps under 50 degrees F
will kill the battery, and corrupt/lockout your memory card
within moments.
The old saying "you get what you pay for" applies to
this camera. It's solid built, with many features, and very
compact to take anywhere. However, if you are looking to take a picture worth displaying in public, find a higher
priced/quality camera.
Pros: durable, Lightweight/Portable, low price
Cons: Poor image quality, Poor Low-Light Performance, Short battery life, unusable in cold climate
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Where's the Time-Lapse?!
on June 12, 2010

My brother has the older version of Canon Powershot (8MP), which I borrowed from time to time. I've grown especially attached to the Time Lapse feature. When I got the newer version, I was so excited! It's much slimmer and the pictures are in amazing quality! I LOVED it... until I realized that it was missing time lapse. Shouldn't the newer (and more expensive) version have more features, or at least the same ones? Other than that, I love it. The size and quality are...wow! However, I would recommend Canon's last version; I'd give up the slimness of my camera for those features it's missing.
Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: less features

I never expected this tiny camera to perform like it does! Just what I needed...a very small camera I can carry with me without getting in my way. So easy to use and picture quality very comparable to my much larger cameras including a SLR! Battery life is great!
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable
I would recommend this to a friend!

Awesome! I LOVE IT!!

Great in low light! Beautiful photos! Disneyland photos at night... amazing without having to ajust shutter speed. Night shots are as good as daytime! The subject as well as the background in the image are completely in focus at night. Amazingly small for such a powerful camera. I am VERY impressed! I take a lot of pictures indoors or outside at night, Christmas lights, etc. This camera photographs exactly what your eyes are seeing. The only con is the tiny tone on tone power button, it is hard to see/find it in the dark, I have learned to just "feel" for it rather than look for it. It should be a contrasting color just to make it easier to find in the dark. Otherwise this camera is PERFECT.
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, best image in low light!!
Cons: hard to see the power button at night
I would recommend this to a friend!
