Small Digital

I work at camera store and this is the camera I chose when looking for a small digital. This camera is excellent if you know how to use it. Full Auto will not give you a great low light shot, all you need to do is put it on a scene mode that is for low light. I used the aquarium mode and got excellent pictures in an aquarium. The movie mode is excellent, however, the file size is huge and only about 20 minutes are able to fit on a 4GB card. I recommend purchasing a HDMI Cable, it will make both your pictures and movie look great on a HD TV. The menus are layed out simply. Overall a great camera.

AMAZING FOR CONCERT VIDEOS

I shot some HD videos in a small rock club with this camera the other night, and I was standing right in front of one of the monitors. Even with earplugs in both my ears, the sound was deafening. I assumed when I downloaded the videos I shot, that the sound would be horrible and distorted because I was less than 3 feet from the monitors.. I was wrong. The sound was PERFECT. 2 guitars, drums and 2 horn players not to mention vocals, and the camera captured all the sound without a single bit of distortion...And the video quality is STELLAR! Best camera I've ever owned! Period!
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable
Cons: Missing features/settings

LOVE this camera BUT.....

Small size, HI def videos, Quality photos. Slow shutter feature a real plus. I really like this camera but its has one major flaw. It may be more important to me than others.
It records videos with a low motor noise. Its very annoying for quiet videos. I had an 1100is which i loved but got stolen. We went camping with the 1100 and took video. The silence allowed us to hear the soft sounds of the woods. I took the 780 to the woods and all you hear is motor noise. You dont hear this while recording, the sound is recorded into the video. Don't get me wrong, canon cameras are superior and the 780 is no exception except for this motor noise. I discovered this after the exchange period so now im stuck with it. Not too happy. Other minor flaws, the buttons should be contoured or textured so u can feel u way without having to look for them. useful for low light shooting.
Cons: slow shot to shot with flash, videos record with motor noise, short battery life with flash, flat buttons hard to use

A great upgrade!

I bought the Ixus 65 two years ago and I knew it would take something extraordinary for me to replace it. In comparison with the Powershot 780, the buttons are easier to press in the Ixus 65, and it may be a challenge for bigger fingers. Nonetheless, I welcome the viewfinder in exchange for a smaller screen, considering it can conserve my battery consumption and it's easier to take pictures in really bright conditions. The HD movie recording capability also sold me, and the 12.1 MP certainly helped as well. It's thin, very compact and it's absolutely wonderful to touch. I would've loved it though if they kept the barking noise option whenever the shutter goes off but that's just me. Overall it's a great buy. Can't imagine why anybody in the market for a new point and shoot would choose anything else.

Really a great little camera for someone on the go. It shoots great pictures that are very sharp. I went wine tasting and even after a few glasses of wine i could shoot clear shots, the camera is very forgiving....:P Also you can shoot HD video ,great for short movies that will play back great on a HD monitor.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life

dropped at Yosemite

I highly recommend this camera. It was dropped in the river atop Yosemite falls, was open, bumped along the rocks, fell into a swirl of water and I reached deeper than my elbow to recover it. It was dead and looked hopeless. I took the battery and card out, sat it out overnight, then sealed it in a zip bag with a shoe "do not eat" desiccant package for a week. It works, the camera store was able to retrieve the photos off the card (I could not), but the rest of the camera appears in great shape. I've been using it for 6 months and my pics are perfectly clear. I like the size and the eye piece for viewing when its bright or I don't have my glasses. I would not hesitate to buy this camera again!

Great for certain uses

This camera is a top notch choice, as long as you aren't expecting it to outperform an SLR. I personally like to keep digitals in the point-and-shoot functionality, and this camera beats all the others I've tried. My favorite feature is that it saturates light beautifully. It has a ton of great features. The features a bit clunky to use if you have a specific shot in mind. It does take great shots without adjusting any settings at all, and it shoots fast. The continuous mode is very quick. This is the point-and-shoot king of cameras, as far as I'm concerned. It is smaller than pocket-sized and fast with enough features to compose great photos if you care to take the time to. The best of both worlds, just the way a camera should be.
