Good little camera
on December 15, 2009

I've had this camera for nearly a month and during that time I've used it on family outings and for work. Sometimes the right camera for the job is the one you have on hand. This little camera fits well into a pocket, takes high-quality pictures and has features such as image stabilization and auto ISO that improve its low-light performance while maintaining good image quality. My only wish is that Canon release a firmware update to allow shooting RAW format and/or TIFF.
Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, easy to use
Cons: no raw format
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great little camera

This is a great camera, i had an older Powershot and I have been much happier with this newer one. It is so small you can take it anywhere with you and it takes good pictures for vacations. Definetly worth the money!

Poor indoor picture quality

Unfortunately, this 780 takes very poor pictures when the flash is needed, Outdoor shots are [just] ok but indoor shots are awful. Very granular, out of focus. Very unhappy with this camera. Not up to traditional Canon picture quality. I do not recommend this product.
Pros: Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

disappointment
on April 27, 2010

I have always purchased Canon cameras and to my disappointment this Canon did not perform. I purchased this camera bc it was compact and thin. As a graphic designer I use my camera for everything and I found that I had to photoshop my photos to get the quality of my previous canon camera photos. The photos are blurry even when you slightly hold down the button to focus before taking the picture, it airbrushes photos at times and makes it look overly airbrushed and the lighting is terrible. I would not purchase this camera but would highly recommend any other Canon Powershot, as I have never had any issues in the past.

movie file format; point and shoot NO

I needed a portable easy to use camera but found it hard to figure the controls out for night shots; unable to get clear pictures at night; eyes are always messed up; red eye shots are fixable but the bright white light eyes don't respond. Subjects look as if they were coming from some horror movie.. also movie records only on mov file. I have a hard time making something out of my shots on my computer for easy sharing (so much for convenience) So far, I have not been able to use it for the reasons I bought it for. As for construction, I had the black one and it barely touched an airplane arm rest - it is already showing a couple silver nicks. Maybe good for advanced users but for quick use easy shot moms like me I have to say it has failed to pass my convenience meter - (except for its size, weight and looks of course)
Cons: Difficult to use, Complicated controls/menu, Missing features/settings, Poor Low-Light Performance, Flimsy Construction
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

worse. canon. ever. purchased

this has been the worst canon i've ever purchased. i've owned about 5 canons since my first canon purchase and this is by far the wost canon.
the picture quality is extremely poor. the settings are beyond limited and doesn't even come with color accent feature.
i first purchased the camera based on its looks and weight, and the price was definitely affordable and on the low end, but after using the camera it will definitely be returned.
from all the pictures taken, about 90% of the pictures come out poor.

Very poor image quality

The images produced by SD780 IS is extremely noisy and lacks crispness. Images are way too soft. To me it seems like the image processor only captures a 2 MP images and extrapolates it to 12 MP resolution. I previously owned a powershot A 75 - 3 MP camera and this oldie produces much clearer images. I would stay : Stay away from this camera. It aint good. Its not worth the money. So STAY AWAY.
Pros: small size.. very handy..but see the cons
Cons: Poor image quality, Poor Low-Light Performance, very disappointing
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

so-so purchase

The quality of the pictures I get with this camera is OK, but just OK. I find that if I take pictures outside, the quality is better, but taking indoor shots with flash doesn't give me the clarity or brightness I expect. I am also VERY disappointed in the viewfinder. It is so teeny, it's worthless, and having a viewfinder was one of the main reasons I bought this camera.
Pros: easy to use, Lightweight/Portable
Cons: Poor image quality, Poor Low-Light Performance, poorly designed viewfinder
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
