Video quality

I got this camera as a Christmas gift and I did a lot of research on it. In the beginning, I was very pleased with the quality and performance. Recently though, the video quality has gone downhill. Whenever I upload a video and I want to watch it, the video gets choppy and skips really bad. It only just started doing this so maybe I accidentally changed the settings but I don't recall doing anything to mess it up. Maybe I can figure out how to stop it in the future, as of right now though, everything I tried has failed.

Video Problems

Very difficult to figure out video downloading - using the website makes the video quality very poor. My computer won't play the videos at all - and uploading to webside is very slow. Battery life not long enough, either.
Hard to figure out, and hard to read the buttons: small print!
Cons: Difficult to use, Complicated controls/menu, Missing features/settings, difficult video downloads
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This is the 4th canon camera I have ever bought but this Powerhot SD780 IS is the worst camera ever and it has giving me so much stress and disappointment. Quality of images are extremely poor, images are too bright and 9 out of 10 images are blurred. Shocking it is one of the Canon product.
Cons: Poor image quality, Difficult to use, Short battery life, Flimsy Construction
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Video format is mov not avi

I purchased this camera two days before Christmas and on Christmas is the first time I tried it. I replaced a damaged canon sd750 so I thought I didn't need to know anything special and I was wrong as I was filming my christmas my memory card was full quickly and I went to unload the camera only to find out I had to download their software with quicktime then once downloaded I then found out windows media player wouldn't play it, which I now know media player can decode it somehow at the time it wasn't working. I have figured it out since then but for making me halt my christmas and not clearly explaining this I returned the camera for the sd1200 which accepts avi format with no special sofware and no quicktime, I also wanted to add I did not notice a hd recording when I played them back on the computer I never got a chance to show them on my tv becasue canon already out of the box requires me to purchase a special hdmi cable reducer not a regular hdmi cable
Cons: Difficult to use
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Not what I expected

I have the Canon powershot 1000 and love it, but I wanted to upgrade. The pictures from the 780 were not anywhere near the quality of the 1000. The indoor pictures were dark with a lot of red eye. Even the outdoor pictures were not very good. I ended up returning it and have now ordered the 960 and am hoping for better results.
Cons: Poor image quality, Poor Low-Light Performance, Flimsy Construction
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Since the product requires a memory card, it should be included -- or at least the buyer should be warned to purchase it separately.

Well I loved this camera until my flash quit working. I got it for a Christmas present. I have owned 3 canon cameras and I can't return it to the store I got it from. I have to send it to Canon.
Cons: Missing features/settings
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
