Superb camera

Recently purchased the canon SD780 and thus far I am very impressed! I have owned Canon cameras in the past, and they have ALL been great cameras! I recently made the mistake of buying another brand, and lets just say it is collecting dust! Right from the get-go, it turned out great pics! very impressed on the quality of them. The size is great, pretty much the same size of a credit card and it is very thin and light weight. I'm no expert, but for taking pics of family events, holiday travel, I'm very confident it will work out very well. The only reason why I gave "Quality" 4/5 stars is that it just doesn't feel as solid as my past canon cameras. I haven't dropped it, nor do i hope to test that out,lol Very pleased and would highly recommend this camera
Pros: good battery life, excellent image quality, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: minor complaint not a "solid" feeling
I would recommend this to a friend!

A few shortcomings, but a fine product overall

I love the look and feel of this camera, and it takes great photos. The on/off button is teeny and sometimes difficult to activate, and the controls are a bit complicated and difficult to figure out. I haven't spent as much time with the owner's manual as I should, and perhaps I'll be able to address that problem when I read it more carefully. The case does scratch and "bruise" fairly easily, but I've just used a red permanent pen (a Sharpie) for touch-ups, and you can't even tell where my two-year-old granddaughter dropped the camera on some concrete pool decking. Overall, I'm glad to have the Canon. It's a fine little camera.
Pros: Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, beautiful
Cons: Complicated controls/menu, Poor Low-Light Performance

Canons really over-done themselves this time!

Canon has done a WONDERFUL job with this camera. I am COMPLETELY satisfied with this product, and will definitely not regret the purchase. What has been, by far, the most helpful, is the Smart Auto. I automatically chooses the right setting for your camera, and is so perfect when it comes to dim, to low light pictures.
I was a little bit skeptical about the blink detection, because I didn't think that it would work well, but I was completely surprised by how well it actually works! I have taken about 20 pictures with people closing their eyes (or squinting), and it has picked up on it EVERY SINGLE TIME!
Over all, this camera is the best, most compact, camera that Canon has to offer.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable
I would recommend this to a friend!

small but small

I've had the camera for about a year. I bought it primarily for the image quality and size. I shoot quite a bit with my SLR so if I'm looking for fantastic photos I'll use that instead. This was just to be a carry-in-your pocket camera for the occasional trip photo when I didn't want to lug my SLR and lenses around. The 780 performs as I'd expect although I wish the power and shutter buttons were re-designed. They're just too small and my hands are not huge. The menu system is confusing at times for setting the white balance, etc.. overall though, it takes nice photos, fast zoom and is extremely compact. The ergonomics suffer though.
Pros: battery life
