PLEASE READ BEFORE YOUR PURCHASE!!!

Hmm... A slight dissapointment, overall a pleasure to have, though. Here are some things that I feel EVERYONE prepared to buy this camera should know, so PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE BUYING THIS CAMERA!!
Pros: Sleek design offers a great looking (and pocket sized) camera that appeals to all ages. Wide variety of modes, ranges, etc.. GREAT for nature photogs like myself. Easy to understand manual, pretty user friendly camera. Very smart AUTO mode helps out. Would reccomend to a friend.
Cons: When recording videos, there is NO PAUSE BUTTON!! You have to put clips together on a movie maker if you want a clean, un-choppy video. Also, it is VERY VERY EASY TO ERASE A PIC OR VIDEO! If you click it one wrong time, that memory is gone and I have no clue how to restore it. Battery takes a long time to charge, but lasts for about 2 hours when full.
Overall nice. Needs a mature, patient owner, though! And I am not patient... haha
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, outdoor image quality is super, love auto mode!
Cons: Missing features/settings, Poor Low-Light Performance, can erase stuff easily, no pause for video
I would recommend this to a friend!

Very Pleasantly Surprised

I bought this camera sight unseen just days before my first trip to Hawaii in December. I was having questionable performance from my (not Canon) other camera and did want to take chances. This camera was so small that I thought they had forgotten to put the camera in the box. But what great performance from such a tiny camera! I had to get used to not having as much zoom capability as my prior camera, but I'll be able to do some enlarging with 12 MP versus the 4 I had before. I took off for Hawaii without much chance to read how to use the controls and features, but other than controlling the flash - which I still haven't figured out - it was incredibly simple to use. While I was somewhat jealous of other travelers I saw with their expensive digital SLRs and long lenses (and I still want one and it will be a Canon), I was even happier to know that this camera fit easily in my purse or pocket and was available in a heartbeat to take a picture when I needed it to be. It also means that apart from vacation time I can always have the camera with me in my purse when I need it. I'm never saying "Oh, I wish I had my camera with me" when the unexpected need pops up. The quality of the pictures is phenomenal. I couldn't ask for more. The stability in low-light situations or when taking pictures from a moving vehicle is really impressive. I even took pictures while zip-lining without any blurring. Even my husband commented on the clarity and he never notices this kind of thing. One of the other things I liked was the inclusion of a viewfinder for times when I can't really see the LCD screen. I really like having the option of viewfinder or screen. It's also really easy to review the pictures you've already taken and then get right back to picture-ready again. For the money, this camera can't be beat.
Pros: good battery life, excellent image quality, Lightweight/Portable, easy to use, great stabilization

This this is incredibly small and slim, and takes marvelous pictures and beautiful 720P video. It's kind of a mid level camera, not only pricewise, but also because it's what I would call a mid to advanced level novice camera. You can use it on "Auto" but to really make it shine, you're going to have to dig in and learn all it's features. Once you've done that, you can take very nice pics in almost any conditions.
Pros: great all rounder, tiny so you can keep it with you, good looking 720p video, clear bright screen even in daylight, price, great macro shots
Cons: tiny d-pad is not compatible with big ol' thumb.

I absolutely love this camera for the size, I have a large camera from another manufacturer and love it too. This camera takes pictures fast, the picture comes out really good, and I can edit the picture the way I want it and save it to the card. That is probably my most favorite feature other than the great pics it takes. Very colorful and easy to handle.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable

This camera is an excellent buy, Its compact size makes it easy to slip into your pocket, and in black it is very discrete. The 20mm macro is great and the HD video is awesome. This camera produces excellent 8x10 prints right off the card. Switching down to the M1 image size setting produces awesome results even up to ISO400 eliminating any image quality issues. With the available WP-DC31 housing it becomes a brilliant dive camera, the underwater setting and exposure control are great, and the evaluative white balance setting makes available light photography a breeze. The underwater HD video is also very impressive. It works best with a high speed memory card over 4 GB, and with any camera, a spare battery is always wise to have.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable, great macro, great video
Cons: Missing features/settings

I have had my new camera for just a few months. I actually researched all of the Canon cameras before purchasing this one and though I wasn't totally sure it was the one for me (mostly because of the small size)....now I'm hooked! This camera is amazing! Easy to learn, easy to use and the size works much better for me now that I'm used to it...and great for travelling! Lots & lots of great features so anyone & everyone can take great photos!
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable

Astonishing

I purchased the SD780 IS (Elph) so that I could have a decent camera on my person at all times. I didn't expect pictures to look as if taken by my Canon XSi (at more than four times the price). But I get wonderfully sharp images even hand held at night - with lens wide open and shutter speed at 1/18.
Okay, these cameras are both worth the money but are hardly comparable. It is difficult to use the little viewfinder on the Elph. You can't change lenses on the Elph but the XSI has 90 different Canon lenses to select from. The Elph, with the built in lens does focus much closer than the kit lens on the XSI. The Elph takes videos and the XSi does not. Because the XSI is a single lens reflex, it makes a lot of noise. The Elph is quite. The XSi does have more features than the Elph, but the Elph has most of them - including the magical Image Stabilization feature.
I am really astonished! How is it that such a tiny little camera can take such great pictures? If I had purchased the little Elph first I might not have purchased the XSi - I'm not sure.
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

....with nice styling and feel. It has two ways to turn it on: picture-taking ready or picture-review ready without the lens popping out. It has a built-in mic and small speaker. Records 2 (regular size aspect ratio) movies formats with low or medium memory use, or HD (letterbox) movies that use more memory... and use the battery up quickly. If you plan on shooting a lot of movies you'll probably want the optional AC plug-in power source, as the AC charger included only charges the battery- you remove the battery every time you charge it, then put it back in the camera alongside the chip. Remember to get a memory chip when you buy it, as the camera will not save even one picture without one. Also note that older computers may play back the movies you download kind of jerky, as you need at least 1 G of Ram and at least 1.6 G in your OS to playback movies smoothly. I think the included software disc for viewing and manipulating images is good- it seems intuitive and fairly simple to use. And having a regular optical viewfinder is a nice feature- not many cams have this.
Pros: Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, easy to use
Cons: Short battery life
