What a surprise!

What a surprise! When I opened up the first shots done with this camera I was astounded that such quality could come from such a small package. The images compare with those done with my Canon Powershot G10.
What I like:
1. Incredibly small. The perfect camera to take with me all the time.
2. Excellent still image quality.
3. Easy to understand and use.
4. Price was very reasonable for what it offers.
What I dislike:
1. No manual mode. No AV mode. No Shutter mode. Grumble.
2. No RAW.
3. Videos produce some blue highlights in bright areas.
4. No live view histogram.
I will highly recommend this camera to others who want a small camera for snap shot shooting. Frankly, I think I can produce professional quality images with it. Especially if one pays attention to white balance, use of a tripod, and exposure compensation.
Pros: Simple controls/menu, excellent image quality, Lightweight/Portable
Cons: no manual mode, no raw, no live view histogram.
I would recommend this to a friend!

This camera ROCKS. I hate using flash in my photos, so I set it to no flash and it lasted about a week, and I take a LOT of pictures and videos! The only thing that I would change about it is that I would put a light mount for video, since the video quality in the dark isn't all that great.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Dim LCD, Poor Low-Light Performance
I would recommend this to a friend!

Big Disappointment

I bought this model to replace the Canon Powershot SD 450. I loved my 450 and do not like the 780 at all. Although the video quality of the 780 is amazing and can't even compare to the 450, I don't use video that much. But, I do love to take pictures and find this camera does not compare at all to the 450 in terms of picture quality. Low light performance is terrible. Pictures of my cats with the old camera are incredible, while I have yet to take a really good picture of my cats with the 780, even when using the kids/pets feature. Very disappointed and wish Canon had not discontinued the Powershot SD450.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Poor image quality, Poor Low-Light Performance
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I was in the market for a new point and shoot. I have never owned a canon, and always purchased a different brand. I planned on purchasing the SD 1200, but at the local big box store they had the SD780 on clearance, so I decided I'd get it. I love that I can just keep it in my purse. It takes great shots using the flash (something my previous camera didn't do). I think the kids function could be better receptive to action shots. Kids are active and the camera is a little slow to catch the shot. Overall I'm super happy with my decision and am now a faithful Canon owner.
Pros: good battery life, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: poor action shot

Great Camera.

Okay guys I've had this camera for a year now and it is truly amazing. It takes great pictures during the day and at night =] i honestly can't be happier with it. In fact, for Christmas, my family and I bought my father one because he loved mine so much!!!! I love the camera's speed, it rarely takes blurry pictures. Plus, its very compact and slim. It also has good battery life and is durable. If you drop it because your as clumsy as me, it well not break. It's easy to use and its great! so really think about it and enjoy!

Replacement Camera
on August 10, 2010

This camera is a replacement and upgrade of an older Canon Camera. I have been using it for 8+ months to take pictures of people, flowers, mountains and other objects. I have used it to take pictures of bright snow scenes to dark closeup flower pictures. I find that using the scene mode is very inportant to have reasonable focus and exposure. When I take time to take a good picture the camera does its part. Movies with sound are great and can be converted to any format. Battery life has been so long that I actually misplaced the charger. The camera is small and light so I have it with me a lot more of the time.
Pros: pictures in low light, battery life, ease of use
Cons: door to connections is poor design and weak

Awesome Camera

I really love this camera. Picture quality is great. I had photo's printed from 4x6 to 8x10, and have been extremely impressed time and time again. Outdoor shots are fantastic, indoor shots are pretty darn good if you're willing to learn how to use the camera (flash, exposure compensation, iso). Lots of cool color setting. HD video is awesome. Friends are impressed at quality (especially at 30fps out of a tiny camera).
Over the weekend I dropped the camera on concrete. to make matters worse, the camera landed on where the lens extends and battery cover. You have no idea how sad/angry i was. that part that extends was bent in two places and wouldn't retract. My wife fiddled with it, no luck. I ended up forcing the lens all the way in to be flush. I proceeded to push the power button and the camera still works!! The battery latch still is intact. THAT'S build quality. (light, light scratches)
I highly recommend this camera.
Pros: picture quality, high build quality, including a viewfinder, semi-manual settings, spot metering, hd 780 video manual exposure ability, easy menu system, very intelligent auto, battery life
Cons: tad faster lens would have been better, could have used full manual controls
I would recommend this to a friend!
