Great Little Camera If You Spend The Time
on August 7, 2009

This is a great little camera with the emphasis on little. You can throw it in your pocket and not even really think about it being there. Out of the box in auto, I was not liking this camera. I felt it had several problems including heavy handed image softening (particularly in low light situations), the color was over saturated, and everything seemed slightly over exposed. However, upon reviewing and adjusting the Program mode to my liking then this camera began to shine. If you're willing to take the time to tweak the settings and you need a little portable camera, then this is for you. If you just want to get something that right out of the box is ready to go, you may want to look elsewhere. Personally I am happy to have all of the adjustment options to get the look and shooting experience I want. Although the controls are small in size, I have no problem operating them at all and I'm a large handed person.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable

Disappointed

This camera is missing the time-lapse video feature I've grown fond of with my last edition Canon. Also, the ISO shortcut on the navigation wheel has been changed to adjust exposure instead. Which is more important? My vote is ISO. It fixes grainy photos with the touch of one button (not 3).
I don't understand why Canon took a great camera (like the SD760 IS) and changed it to an OK camera.
Cons: Missing features/settings

Good Novice Choice

I try to have this camera in a pocket or backpack almost every time I leave my house. When I'm on my motorcycle it's in a side pocket and I find myself riding just to get a photo.I will probably get a mount so I can leave it on the bike for odd shots or movies and quicker access.I would recommend
using the tether before you take it out of the case.I use this with my computers' photo system with no problems;I think the photo quality is worth the price and the size makes my cell phone camera the second choice for almost every photo
opportunity.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable
Cons: not waterproof

Canon Powershot SD780

A very cool camera for the size and money! Pictures for a point and shoot were very good for outside use and with the flash. Indoor photos with low light conditions weren't very good. Very blurry and grainy when shot indoors. HD video was the selling point for this camera. This camera and video cam did very good with alot of lighting.
Pros: good battery life, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, easy to use
Cons: Poor Low-Light Performance

Decent Performance in a Fabulously Small Package
on June 2, 2010

I bought this camera without doing much research before a big trip - I wanted something very small that I could use easily and this sure fit the bill; it's smaller than just about any cell phone.
It takes good pictures in just about any conditions, even in low-light not using the flash. The pictures are fine for average person use, but if you're a serious photographer, don't expect the world. The 12.1 megapixel setting doesn't deliver the unbelievable clarity you'd expect; it doesn't seem a whole lot better than my old 5 MP Canon, honestly. The zoom is not very powerful (only 4x) so you won't get much performance in that area.
Battery life has been strong and I've had no problems with it to date.
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Poor image quality

An Oldie, But A Goodie

Though this is last year's cam, there are quite a few features it has that I prefer over this year's lineup. I like not having a wide-angle lens because of the distortion that WA creates, & its omission makes this cam's seemingly-lacking 3x opt zoom acceptable. I also like the SD780's zoom-ring lever compared to the current style. I initially thought the optical viewfinder would be nearly useless, but I'm using it almost all the time now on bright days because, even though the LCD display is quite good, it's sometimes not enough to compensate for very bright sunlight. The 780 can continuously record up to ~20-25mins High Definition video, whereas many of the current SD's (including the brand-new SD4000) are restricted to "up to 10mins" of Hi Def video clips. Overall, I'm pleased with the SD780 & would recommend it to a friend.
Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, love the black-on-black finish!
Cons: can't optically zoom while recording video, ccd-sensor lens flare

Well worth the purchase

I bought the SD780 several days ago and this is one of the best purchases I have ever made. For a while, I had been debating whether or not to buy this camera because of the price, but then I found it on sale in a Sunday ad and decided to buy it. This camera is worth the money. The pictures are clear with great color and the anti-shake technology helped get rid of the blurry pictures that were a problem with my old camera. And, this camera also takes great videos, so I no longer need to purchase a camcorder. I am happy with my purchase and I only wish I had bought this camera sooner.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, excellent image quality, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, good value
Cons: looks fragile keep away from kids
