I bought this for thanks giving day and it returned it because the color on my monitor was very poor ( mostly excessively red). Channels it captured were also very different from what got captured on my regular tv antenna

Don't recommend for interior rooms

Purchased this after looking at several different options for watching tv on my laptop at work. I work during nights, and inside of a large office building without any windows close by. I tried this at my home first, and it picked up maybe 15 or so of the 20 channels available over the air in my area. Brought it to work, I got maybe 5 of those channels because of being inside a large building. I even purchased a couple different antennas/amplifiers to see if it would make any difference in the signal strength. Nothing made a difference, so I'm returning this within the 30 days of purchase. It might be a useful device for anyone looking to add an additional tv for watching football if you had a splitter from your cable/satellite box, but not useful for those looking to pick up over the air channels inside a building with thick walls.
What's great about it: Picture quality of the HD channels that had strong signal strength were excellent, worked well with Windows Media Center
What's not so great: Doesn't work well inside buildings, antenna is weak, device gets abnormally hot during use,
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Whipsaw by Hauppage, don't get caught!

Hauppage had a divorce from ElGato 1 year ago. They did not change their spec list for the TV Tuner which said ElGato lite was supplied. Without ElGato Lite, the tuner will not work. So one must buy ElGato v3 ($ 80.00) from ElGato. Costco tech was absolutely no help!
What's great about it: Product OK, Marketing not.
What's not so great: $ 80.00 extra for necessary program!!!
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great Price; Better with Snapstream software

On my first attempt to use this as a QAM cable tuner, the installation into "Windows Media Center" was terrible. You had to install a bunch of non-OEM patches to get any QAM channels. WinTV is terrible too as no program guide.
It worked the best once I spent an extra $100 and installed Snapstream BeyondTV which gave me up to 40 QAM channels compared to 25 QAM channels with some basic channels missing which supports both Windows devices and iPods.
What's great about it: Price is under 100 dollars
What's not so great: Software bundled is terrible, replaced with Snapstream software
I would recommend this to a friend!

installed on vista with the supplied software but only installed the drivers.
used windows media center to set it up with the small ant. that came with it all my local digital chanells are crystal clear. excellent companion for media center. just make sure your computer has a good processer.

Nice to use on a laptop

One thing I didn't see right away is that the little antenna extends. Just pull on the tip near the end. I am sure that good picture quality & sound will depend on how strong the signal is in relation to where you are, like in a building, car, or Office. On what floor, ect. Your going to have to play around with it in different locations. Overall, I think it's a nice product now that the digital station signals are being broadcast.
What's great about it: Nice to use with a laptop
What's not so great: Good picture quality & sound will depend on signal sorce

Wrong software in package after 4 hours trying to get it to work. Returned product and received new product with correct drivers and software and was working within 15 minutes.
I have read of other brands of same type product having the same issues.
Other than that is seems to work great so far.
