So I bought this a year a go to go on a trip to Florida with. Lets just say that this GPS took me right through DC and that was the longest way possible. Even around my town I use it and it takes me way over to the other side of town from where I want to go. It gets me lost, and just basically doesn't save any time. I was driving through AR and on the road it told me to be on the all of a sudden it was recalculating saying I was off course and the map didn't even show me on a road.

My husband and I picked up this GPS to help us on our road trip. Not only did it give us bad directions, it insisted we drive through every toll road in Florida. It had us get off the toll bridge, make a u turn and then get back on the same toll bridge and pay again. Really? It also froze on us within the first couple hours. Not a good product, don't waste you money....

This Garmin 255WT is the nicest GPS I have owned. I started off with a Garmin C320 years ago and that was a good unit. Have also used handheld Garmin's like the eTrex Legend and eTrex Vista Cx.
Since then I have had a Mio and a Sanyo branded automotive GPS units. These lesser known brands were decent but lacked the refinements that Garmin unit's have.
The voice is clear and easy to understand. The spoken street names were very good though in my area there aren't any too difficult to pronounce street names.
Not had a chance to see the how the Traffic works, though the green icon was there when I was driving so the FM data channel must have been present.
There is a map update available. You'll need your own USB cable to update it as one is not included in the box. After playing with it as it was right out of the box I took it inside, registered it with Garmin and found that "City Navigator North America NT 2010 Map Update" is available for download. Can't beat a free update to the maps! There are also some other updates the webupdater software found.
Overall I think this is a solid device. I've never had any issues with Garmin devices.
What's great about it: Ease of use, free map updates
What's not so great: Maybe that no USB cable is included.

i bought this as a gift for my wife and she (as well as i) love it. it is light weight and you dont have to press hard on the touch screen. it has the latest maps and you get a 60 day free map update. it shows what the speed limit is on the road or highway you are on and it show the speed that you are traveling at. you can also download different car symbols and you can change the voices. it even estimates how much gas you waste traveling to your destinations. you can even put a picture of your destination on it and when you get there it comes out on the screen.the only minor drawback is that if you put the volume past 70 (at least on the one i got) the voice gets distorted ....(the speaker vibrates ) This product is fun... if you get one, i dont believe you'll be disappointed
What's great about it: easy to use right out of the box
What's not so great: voice is distorted if you go higher than 70

I bought this GPS for my girlfriend because she was always having trouble in cities and constantly is getting lost, so it made sense to invest in a GPS that would help her to navigate from place to place easier. I wasn't attached to any brand when I looked but was always impressed with the reviews and testimonies from friends with a Garmin who said they never had problems and were in love with it. I looked at the 205 as it's cheap, but for the price the features and peace of mind of having a Garmin are unbeatable. First, the life-time traffic is great because it helps cut-down on time stuck on the high-way and shows her the quickest way from point A to point B before she even knows the difference. Second, the screen is large and the user interface is incredibly easy to use. It's a bit expensive, but if you're going to invest in a GPS unit, then you might as well make sure you do it right. I'm not sure that a GPS is nearly as valuable without the traffic and not having to pay any subscription fees just sent it over the top.
Definitely purchase if you're looking for easy to use and for a unit that gets it right every time.
What's great about it: Life-time traffic, spoken street names
What's not so great: doesn't come with USB, isn't pre-charged

This is our first GPS. Im actually here because were buying another. Will probably get the same model and unit, but am considering an upgrade. We love it and it has definitely been worth the money.
What's great about it: It's very convenient for finding jobs we need to be at
What's not so great: Sometimes it freezes. Once or twice in the last several months
