Awesome product, very easy to use and easy to update. Garmin offers free traffic and one free update unlike the worthless Tom Tom's I have experienced.

Great GPS, But Needs More Volume

I have experience with Garmin GPS receivers, as I still own an i3 (amazing how much they've come down in price!). Therefore, it was easy for me to become acclimated with the new model. Best Buy had a fantastic deal on the 255WT - hard to pass up. The 255WT builds maps and calculates/recalculates routes very quickly. The display is bright and easy to read, and the touchscreen is very responsive. The feature set is very good, with various trip data available, a picture viewing application, and gas mileage info. It even tells you speed limits! Various settings (such as spoken language and even the map's car icon) allow the user to set up the 255WT to their liking. Perhaps the best feature is its ability to speak street names - very handy.
Unfortunately, the GPS did not come with a USB cable - however, my old i3 had one, so I just used that to transfer pictures from my computer. The mounting bracket suctions the GPS to the windshield very securely, and allows for easy removal (to prevent theft). The casing of the unit itself seems very sturdy, and the battery life is very good. Unfortunately, you do have to have the 255WT plugged into the vehicle power socket in order to receive traffic updates (it receives a signal via the antenna built into the cord).
The only real problem I've encountered is that the unit's text-to-speech voice isn't quite loud enough in my admittedly not-so-quite car. If you turn the volume up too much, the unit will buzz with some spoken syllables. This 255WT is very useful and lives up to Garmin's reputation as a satnav leader. I wish it had a few more features - such as Navigon's pictorial lane information, but Garmin's straightforward controls seal the deal for me.
What's great about it: Fantastic price (on sale), easy to get started, reroutes quickly, responsive touch screen, bright display
What's not so great: Not enough volume on text-to-speech, no lane/road info like competitor models

Let me just say that I think that this is the most cost effective GPS that is on the market today. If you want the mid-sized screen (4.3") that calculates very quickly I would definately recommend this GPS. The Garmin brand GPS lives up to it's name and does what it is made to do. I found this item on Sale on Black Friday Online and instead of fighting the crowds I snatched it up for $129.99 (recently on sale at this price again I noticed). Only thing that I did not do my research on is the Free Traffic service. On the fourth line of the fine print on the bottom of the box it mentions that the Free Lifetime Traffic (which is in large print on 3 sides of the box as a major feature) is only available in certain major metro areas. So, I live in Savannah and when called and asked Garmin if service was available, the rep sorta laughed at me. He said that Atlanta and some suburbs of Atlanta were the only cities in Georgia. Long story short, just buy the 255W and save another $10-30 on your purchase unless you live a very highly populated area. The only other thing that is not perfect about this product is typing in street names/store names on the touchscreen. I average 2 mistypes per entry. Not too bad but could be much better with Capacitive screens now being all the craze for touch screen smart phones and the like. All in all, I love my Garmin. This was to replace a Magellan 1200 that was a cheapy that just died on me. If needed, will buy another Garmin in the future.
What's great about it: Very Quick Routing, Updated POI's, Auto Turn on/off with car
What's not so great: Availability of Free Traffic Services, Typing on Screen

The 255wt is a great GPS. It is my second Garmin and this one is for our daughter who has been trying to use the gps service on her phone. This is so much better, safer and easier to use and will be much cheaper and paid for in a year. Traffic service is nice when it works, but has to be something major to show up.
What's great about it: Better, faster and easier than phone nav service
What's not so great: hard to find good place to mount
I would recommend this to a friend!

Love it, We bought two. One for my husband who travels, one for me who doesn't. He recently had his stolen from his vehicle while on a trip and he replaced it with a Nextar device. When he got home from the trip, he claimed MY Garmin because it is so much nicer. The screen is larger and easier to read, and it is in general much easier to use than the Nextar. I am planning on returning the Nextar and replacing his (or rather, MY) Garmin.
What's great about it: Easy to set up, easy to use, large display
What's not so great: nothing

I owned an older nuvi with a small screen. This one is much easier to use and it has more features. I really love the traffic alerts.
What's great about it: It is very easy to understand and use.

Great basic gps. Serves my purpose great. Would love to have an easier way to find alternate routes though. I didn't realize i didn't have the traffic feature turned on (didn't ever see anything in the setup to realize it didn't automatically come on, would be another bonus), so when i was stuck in 2 hours of traffic trying to find an alternate route out of the madness it would have been great to push a button to tell me where to go. But if you are looking for an above basic gps this one is pretty good.
What's great about it: Ease of navigation of the controls, user friendly, quick map routing
What's not so great: doesn't always find right address or location. Would love to have easier way to find alternate routes.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I bought the device because of high rating. Overall it is a good product. But there are something that apparently not good: I went to a nearby city, the best way is to go highway, but it pick the local road: about 7 miles local. I cannot understand how it do the calculation. It is not a complex route at all. I was using the fastest routing method, so it is not a setting issue. It failed to find the best route many times. I would say google map routing is much better than Garmin.
I didn't try other models, so if most GPS cannot do a good job on routing selection, then I still have to use Garmin.
What's great about it: easy to use
What's not so great: often cannot find best route, no lane assistant
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
