At first I thought that this device would fall over or become jarred enough to fall off the dash, but it seems to be heavy enough to stay in place. I feel that this device is necessary, for it is my understanding that is against Wisconsin law to mount a GPS on the windshield, although this law is rarely enforced.My only complaint is that I feel it is rather expensive for the purpose it serves.

This is my second... the first had something like a suede base to keep from sliding... eventually got polished and lost hold. This one has a tacky plastic like surface and so far is holding.

Bought this for my new Garmin DriveSmart 61 GPS. Whenever I had to leave my vehicle I didn't have to unmount a suction cup mount from the windshield so that I could hide the unit. I was able to take my GPS down and hide it with little effort. Plus it doesn't leave a tale-tale sign on the windshield that I may have a portable GPS in the vehicle.

I actually returned the one with a sticky surface for the other weighted bag type mount,which was referred to as a friction mount also. I got this to give as a gift,and didn't feel the person would want to have it sticking to their dash. I have one with the weighted bag,and I really like it. When I bought the first one,I didn't realize it was a sticky surface,or I wouldn't have bought it. The weighted one was not available at that time.

Was skeptical when purchasing this. But the mount holds extremely well, does not move or slide at all. If you leave the mount fully extended so the screen sits up off the base, there is a SLIGHT rattle while you drive. Its actually more noticeable when the screen is off. Its not enough to distract you by any means, but its there. But if you drop the screen down so the bottom of the screen is touching the base, there is none at all. But I love the mobility and having more options, and not having to worry about the screen falling off my windshield depending on the temperature.

I use this stand for my GPS on my car dashboard. It was easy to attach my Garmin and pivot the head so I can easily view it. The pivot is tight enough, though, that the GPS doesn't not wobble. The base is 'sticky' to stay on the dashboard through turns, rough road surfaces, and different temperatures. I kept the plastic that peeled off the base so I could put it back on the bottom so it wouldn't collect lint. I take it and my GPS off the dashboard daily so it does not entice burglary. I've only had it a month so I'm not sure what I'll do to wash the base when it gets dirty and hope it will 'stick' to the dashboard after I clean it.
