I adore my new Canon 7d. It does way more than I had even hoped for. There is a learning curve with it, but I'm excited that I have lots of room to learn and grow in my photography with this camera.
I will never buy from Best Buy again though as their customer service is horrendous!! The return policy stated on their receipts and paperwork is totally not honored. As I own a retail business, I do not have unreal expectations for a return policy. I have spoken to everyone from store level up through supposedly management on one of the items I needed to return. Needless to say, after 4 plus hours of dealing with this, I decided to just keep the item and purchase (from another store) the accessory needed to use the item. All simply to avoid having to further deal with Best Buy!!
What's great about it: Wonderful camera!!
What's not so great: No cons that I have found yet with the camera.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Was tired of buying nice point and shoot and them not working to my standards. They never take the pic when you want and you miss the shot. Not with this camera. WOW the quality. You can't say enough about the quality. I bought the Canon package with the telephoto lens and the Canon 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 EF-S Zoom Lens. You don't want the cheap lens that comes with the 7d. There is a lot to learn about the camera to take even higher quality photos. I found that was not a problem b/c I got addicted to this hobby immediately.
What's great about it: Better camera then most Pro's
What's not so great: A lot of functions

I've upgraded from the Rebel XTi after using that for 2 years; this camera is superb, but as the Rebel XTi was already a very capable camera to begin with, in my opinion, the 7D didn't feel like an earth-shaking upgrade for me personally. I'm still just a few weeks into using it, and re-learning how to quickly access some of the main settings (especially during shooting, when you have your eye up to the viewfinder) has been a bit of a challenge, comfortable as I'd become with with Rebel's layout. I still have to check the topside LCD display, or go into the Quick Info screen, until I have it all memorized.
I'm very happy with the improved ISO noise (or rather, the lack of noise)---that was probably my biggest complaint of my Rebel, such that I only shot at 100 or 200; rarely 400, and never 800/1600. The 7D by comparison has produced quite acceptable noise levels up to 3200 so far, and the range goes up to 12000.
The LCD screen on back is a bright, sharp, fantastic upgrade from the Rebel's; I feel like I can finally rely on the LCD to check careful spot focus or the image overall. I also like that Canon brought "Live View" to the camera (similar to a point-and-shoot, allows you to use the LCD screen, instead of viewfinder, to compose)---that feature is nice for awkward angles, where putting your eye to the viewfinder might be hard to do---it also allows you to zoom in 10x on the live scene, to confirm focus before you shoot (helpful in manual focus/macro shots.)
I should have known better, but was a little surprise by how few of my favorite accessories migrated from the Rebel to the 7D... the Canon Angle-Finder C will fit both thankfully, but the 7D uses larger batteries, and thus a different battery grip accessory, as well as a different 3-pin wired remote shutter release. Of course with the larger file size, my mostly 4-gig cards from the Rebel fill up *mighty* fast! So some of these crucial add-ons to my new kit was an added expense I hadn't fully thought out.
Overall, I'm very happy with the camera; the larger body size fits my hands better than the Rebel did, and I don't mind the extra weight. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to someone who is already very comfortable with SLR use, as an upgrade from the Rebel line, or even the "10-series" lineup.
(Note: I have not had any interest in, nor need to explore the HD video feature of the camera, so I can't comment on that.)
What's great about it: Great ISO response, terrific LCD screen, fast frame rate, more features than I have need for right now
What's not so great: The only negative I can think of, is I wish the Canon price was set lower for a non-full-frame.
I would recommend this to a friend!

This is my 3rd Digital SLR camera and 2nd upgrade in less that 2 years. I just didn't realize how much better pictures you can take with advanced electronics and features. I was reluctant to pay 3x the amount for a body alone than the previous digital SLR's I owned, body and multiple lens. I have been absolutely satisfied with this camera. I do not suggest the 7D for a novice hobbyist but someone that has at least a moderate understanding of photography. I have purchased supplemental information (2 books and a DVD), to help me understand all of the features the 7D has and how to easily access them during picture taking and intentionally create the effects I want. Everything is easily assessable when you understand the controls and settings. The manual is great and easy to get information but doesn't show how to best access all of the 7D's features. I absolutely love this camera and recommend it highly. It also works better with Canon's high end L lens then does the lower level Canon digital cameras.
What's great about it: This camera takes awesome pictures in the auto modes but easily lets you adjust in the programable modes.
What's not so great: Size and weight but a worthwhile trade off for a less versatile camera with less capabilities.

I purchased this body as an upgrade to my xsi. I primarily use it to shoot my 10 year old sports (baseball, basketball, soccer games) and indoors for family gatherings. The 8 fps is a gigantic upgrade from the xsi 3.9 fps. Having the video is a bonus as I take short clips of games and kids b-days. The new AF system is fantastic. I get more images in focus than in the past. Additionally the AI Servo shooting mode allows you to shoot the subject starting at any focal point as opposed to starting at the center while using the xsi. Overall functions and menus are similar to the sxi. One last major upgrade for my use is the ability to shoot in lower light conditions. The 7D produces sharper images at higher ISO.
What's great about it: New auto focus system/1080p video
What's not so great: Haven't found one yet

Though I initially had some mechanical problems with my original copy, Best Buy exchanged with no problems. I decided on the 7D over the 5D Mark II because I do a mix of shooting from HS sports to second shooting weddings and this fits that niche perfectly. Low noise at high ISO, fast frame per second rate and the AWB works much better than the previous 40d and 30d I've owned.
What's great about it: Low noise at high ISO
What's not so great: With Canon's battery grip, its heavier the previous prosumer DSLRS I've owned
