Like everyone, I was skeptical that it would actually work well. I remember the old days of net2phone and early and inferior voip service. That was then and this is now!! Very impressed with OOMA. Super simple setup. The "Premier" service can easily be opted out of. The basic service is sweet and gives things like caller id and call waiting. Features you'll spend extra on with any home phone provider. The quality is at least "as good" as a landline, if not better. All depends on the speed of your internet. Recommend you have at least 1MB download and 384MB upload highspeed (I use Comcast). Don't be fooled into paying for VOIP service through COMCAST, VERIZON or VONAGE. If you already have a high speed line; why would you pay them extra to use it for phone service?! They're doing the same thing with their VOIP service, but charging you a ton for it? Makes no sense. Buy the OOMA; set it up and get the benefits of the bandwidth you're already paying for! BESTBUY has them on sale for $199, so wait and don't spend the full $249. Ps. Don't bother getting a "previously activated" unit on Ebay. OOMA "WILL" charge you $60 to reactivate the unit. Do the math and get yourself a brand new unit for $199. There's no activation fees whatsoever and all you pay is the mandatory "federal regulatory" fees of about $12, at the beginning of your 2nd year of service. This thing will pay for itself in about 5 months, if your monthly home phone bill is $35-45. Think about it.
What's great about it: Easy set up. Eliminates home phone bill!!

I read a few complaints about choppy voice transmissions, so I was hesitant. When I first installed it (directly behind my DSL modem), it actually had a choppy transmission. Worried, I just let it sit and "warm up." After some time, maybe ten minutes, it was flawless. I don't have a super fast DSL line (1.5 down, 384k up), and it works great! Sometimes it will transmit a little choppy, but the QoS feature works out the choppiness, and has always been short lived. I imagine a faster Internet connection would alleviate the choppiness entirely. Can't complain for free phone calls!

Bought the Ooma Telo so I could get rid of my landline but keep my phone number which I've had for 9 years. Yesterday I did just that. The phone number porting process was very simple and took about 3 weeks to complete with Ooma handling it and giving me status updates the whole time (for a reasonable $40 one time fee). Voice quality has actually improved over my old POTS line! I'm happy and would recommend this product to anyone who's tired of paying $600/yr for a phone line. Clearly the ROI equation on this purchase is pretty simple has I'll have made back my investment in less than 4 months.
What's great about it: Easy to set up, feature rich, get to keep my phone number
What's not so great: I've got structured wiring so the box has to live in the SW can so I lose a bit of screening functionality.

We are a family of four and have been using the Ooma Telo since Nov. 2009. The voice quality is excellent and the device and service has been stellar. Very reliable little box. I highly recommend the Ooma Telo.
Note: as with any VoIP solution you must have a good and reliable broadband connection. If you do, get this!
What's great about it: Call quality and reliability.
What's not so great: Nothing... It is so good most of the time I forget that we are using it.

I purchased this product almost a year ago. I do not have a land line and no cell service at my residence. This is my home phone. As long as you have reliable internet service you will love this product. I determined it would take me nine months to break even after purchasing and I am saving money on phone service now. Crystal clear voice and it sends a text message to my cell if I miss a call while out. If you subscribe to the $10/month premium service it will forward calls to your cell along with other options.
