I've only had my Ooma for about a month now but the experience has been great so far! I switched from Comcast voice and the call quality is just as good. I even ported my number from Comcast and it only took about a week to go through instead of the 4-6 weeks Ooma estimates.
Pros -lots of features including a blacklist to block calls -only pay for taxes (plus the one time fee for the device) -haven't tried 911 service yet but I can set it up so that I'm emailed or texted if someone dials 911 -porting is fast and smooth with only a one time charge
Cons -because Ooma is a VOIP service it relies on your internet so if that goes out so does your phone (however you can set it up to forward your calls to another number in such an event) -if you want reliable and quality phone service you need fairly decent internet speeds (the faster the better)
Overall if you mostly use cell phones but are not ready to give up your home phone number altogether I would definitely give Ooma a try.

Working from home on a DSL line, Ooma just doesn't cut it.
After 9 months with Ooma I'm going back to a phone line regrettably. This is primarily because I work from home and I'm on the phone about 4-5 hours a day. During conference calls I am regularly dropped by the Ooma service. The call drops and you get dial tone. There is no rhyme or reason to drops. It just happens and it's always at the most in opportune times. This may is probably a quality of service issue with my internet provider (Qwest) but I have a 7Mb DSL service, and I can't get cable internet in my neighborhood, so I have no choice but to use DSL. I've tried tweaking the QOS settings on the router, but nothing seems to help. So, if you just want to use it for regular home telephone calls, residential stuff, just a few minutes a day, it will probably work fine. But for heavy duty use, at least on Qwest DSL, I wouldn't recommend it. Oh, and the telo handset is junk, don't waste your money. Worst handset I've ever used. I love the web interface to the service, and being able to block specific callers, and put them on a block list. Customer service is in the Philippines and though they try hard, almost every question that I had went to an Engineer in Palo Alto, and it took days to get a response, if I got a response at all. If you have any firewall issues, don't plan on getting any useful help from customer service. If you have cable internet and non-business requirements, Ooma will probably work for you. Good luck.
What's great about it: web interface to the service
What's not so great: stability, reliability, customer service, and the not so awesome telo handset

I was a bit skeptical but it went pretty well. The ethernet cable they sent was bad but when I put my own in (with customer service assistance) the set up was good. My number was ported over in less than a month. The sound quality is good and we haven't had any problems. I really like not paying a monthly phone bill.
What's great about it: Set up pretty easily, sound quality better than landline

One time purchase price, no monthly fees. I had the Time Warner internet phone package which was costing almost $40 month, I will pay back the investment in 5 months. Then the savings begin. The machine has worked flawlessly. I highly recommend it.

Signed up for Ooma, going from $50 a month or so phone bill to just about 4 bucks. Easy to set up....ported existing phone number from Vonage...perfection. Tired of always increasing phone bill for all the fees and paying for someone else's phone (taxes). Highly recommended!

I had second thoughts about this product until I seen that it was tested and was highly rated by ConsumerReports.org and sure enough it lived up to what Ooma says it will do! The monthly price is a money saver too. Excellent sound quality.

Watch out Vonage... here comes Ooma. Dumb name, but a great product. I was up and running in less than 15 mintues. Now everyone in my house has their own phone number. My calls even ring on both my home phone and my cell phone at the same time. My voicemails are emailed to me with the voice message attached. What a great idea!
I had Vonage and was paying four times as much money. Ooma was recommended to me by many of my coworkers, but I just kept putting in off. Man am I sorry now! The call quality is unreal. No one knows that I am on a Voip system. I cannot say enough good things about Ooma. I have the HD phones (purchased separately), and they are amazing as well.
You cannot go wrong with this system. My entire phone bill is less than 15 dollars a month (I upgraded my service to the premium line of service, which is optional.)
