Ghost in the Shell once again hits home video, this time in a 25th anniversary edition that puts the original movie (not the altered 2.0 version) on Blu-ray, complete with a new subtitle script. But there are no extras on the disc (or any worth mentioning), and the Steelbook package, for some reason, doesn't have the booklet that comes in the regular package of this title. Still, it's the original movie, complete with all the original voices, sound effects, and music, so one can't really complain about that (especially after the 2.0 release)...but there should be more where there isn't on this disc.

Major disappointment. Even though it is the anniversary edition, there are no extras. I would not have wasted my money if I had known that in advance. Steel cases are notorious for lack of information. Not to mention the fact that the quality was not much of an improvement over the DVD.

To me, GITS seemed like two movies. One is an exciting action film, the other is a philosophical discussion on what it means to be human after being saturated by technology. While there are some interesting characters, the film really about deconstructing the post modern world.

Anime classic finally on blu-ray

This is a well known anime film that introduced a lot of fans to the work of manga artist Masamune Shirow. There have been other films and TV series made since, but this is the original film. I haven't really been too much of a fan of anime produced in recent years, so I'm glad to be able to owner an older classic on Blu-ray finally. Animation quality is nice, and it's also a lot more thoughtful in terms of its themes than the average action anime. I recommend checking out the original manga as well, which is in my opinion the definitive version of the story.

A classic anime!

As any anime fan knows, Ghost in the Shell (or GitS, as it is known in shorthand) is a cyberpunk anime with a message about what it means to be human. Basically, its like the Matrix trilogy, but shorter, better, and fewer speeches. The main character is Motoko Kusanagi, who goes on the trail of a hacker known as the Puppet Master. To say more would spoil the plot, but suffice to say, if you love cyberpunk action, futuristic dystopian cities and teeth-gritting action, you will love this. A classic anime from the '90s!

I love this anime movie. Its smart and the animation looks great. The picture doesnt look great but its an old movie so I doubt they can make the picture quality clearer and vibrant than today's animes. Anyway the picture quality really adds to the atmosphere along with the excellent music.

The movie also has a little bit of letter boxing when watching it but its better than cropping and losing all of the picture. The story is very intelligent and might lose you if you dont pay attention carefully.
