It is normal for a small amount of clean water to remain in the bottom of the sump area at the base of the pump. This is to ensure that the pump seal does not dry out.

what kind/size fitting do I need to hook this dishwasher too for the first time?

The inside is not stainless steel. The inside is actually a white high-density plastic. As far as the installation costs: I purchased my dishwasher while Best Buy was running an installation special. The special offered a delivery charge of $19.99 for all Whirlpool washers. Embedded in that cost was free haul away.

Yes, for a cost. Unless you purchase a specific priced or higher dishwasher, then its free. And sometimes, they offer free delivery and haul-away, just check their weekly ads.

When I placed my order, I called them about the delivery and installation. They can do that but not free. I don't remember the price, but you can call them to find out.
