Hello SolSam - this is Nancy at GE and I am happy to help you with regard to this chest freezer.
The use of an auxiliary power generator is an individual decision. There are some things to keep in mind when considering use of an auxiliary generator. Voltage and cycles are critical for proper operation of appliances. US power standards are 60 hz, 120v ac.
Refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners place a high demand upon the power source when cycling on. The running amperage is listed on the rating plate of the appliance. However, the start-up amperage could be as high as three times the normal running amps. We recommend checking with the solar system manufacturer for specifications.
I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!
